The Lunar eclipse April 25 2013 is at 5º Scorpio on fixed star Gacrux in the Crucifix. The Lunar eclipse forms the backbone of a heavenly Kite aspect pattern and trines both Ceres & Neptune. Constellation Crux “ is said to give perseverance, but many burdens, trials and responsibilities, together with much suffering and many hardships.” It was called the Southern Cross long before it was associated with Christianity. The constellation signifies guidance in general and it’s stars are often found in occultists and astrologers.
It is the cross of matter, signifying the four directions in the horoscope, the Ascendant/Descendant axis crossing the Midheaven/IC axis. This is an important eclipse because this small, but potent constellation will be reactivated on November 1 when we get the final hit of Uranus square Pluto and soon after with the Solar Eclipse of November 3.
The lunar eclipse usually brings endings and/or a culmination of a matter. This is so a new beginning can occur. Both lunar and solar eclipses are threshold points, birth and deaths. To me the lunar eclipse emphasises what you have to leave behind, so there is some melancholia about them. With solar eclipses you are so excited about your new start, you don’t even think about the old life that is ending. The crossroad point is even more acute with this lunar eclipse because of the influence of Gacrux. But that’s not all. The Lunar Eclipse is crossed by Ceres trine Neptune. Neptune is the self-sacrificing saviour Jesus. The victim/saviour who died on the cross. Of course the cross is connected with constellation Centaurus, which is Chiron and repeats the theme of sacrifice. Ceres trine Neptune unites the wisdom of the earth with the wisdom of the heavens. Moon conjunct Saturn materialises that which is spiritual, so this lunar eclipse is ultimately about making heaven work on earth.
Lunar Eclipse In Your Chart
The Moon is conjunct Saturn, which to me signifies mother as matter. Maat was the Egyptian goddess who regulated the seasons, universal law and the actions of humans by weighing their good deeds against their bad. The cross represents her balancing scales and also the horizon point on the horoscope, the Ascendant/descendant axis. Here equilibrium is attained twice a year at the sacred spring and autumn equinoxes when we have equal day and night hours. In our personal lives during the next six months then, it is imperative to find a balance in our lives between work and rest. If we have been working too hard then we need to schedule time for rest and replenishment. This eclipse’s message is blatant. The house where the lunar eclipse falls in your chart will show precisely where you need to strike a balance and will take away something which forces you to adjust the scales accordingly. So if you have been over-spending without putting in the extra working hours, then an eclipse in your 2nd house may mean that the bank refuses to give you any more credit.
Lunar Eclipse April 2013 Aspects
Moon opposite Mars delivers a huge drive to succeed and the tendency to be competitive. The opposition creates a dynamo of energy that needs expression in some physical action. Mars at the Lunar eclipse in Taurus decan 1 will want to get on its soap-box and speak about injustices in the world and how our disconnection from the earth is causing so much pain and suffering. The problem with the opposition is that we have to be careful not to play into the duality that is causing so much division in the world. Blaming “them” is not going to move things forward. The worse manifestation of Gacrux could be playing the victim.
The easier aspect of the eclipse is the grand trine, which soothes the harsh opposition and can turn this crucifix into salvation. Moon trine Neptune does best when it puts its great devotion into an all-consuming passion, Ie; An artistic project, spiritual practice or best of all, working to transform the lives of the sick and needy. Moon trine Ceres seems to give great luck and the ability to bounce back from tragedy. It understands Neptune’s caring, self-sacrificial side, so together they make great nurses, able to heal despite seeing great sorrow. If something has to be amputated then Ceres trine Neptune is your cosmic morphine.
Lunar Eclipse conjunct Asteroid Vanadis
Vanadis is one of the many given names for the Norse goddess Freyja. The reason for the many guises is she adopted them while searching for her husband the god Oor who was frequently absent due to his travelling. Freyja shares similarities with Ceres, since she was said to cry tears of red gold for her missing husband. The name Vanadis itself comprises Van; A group of fertility gods associated with wisdom and the ability to see into the future and Dis; a spirit associated with fate, both good and bad. The Disir (Plural for Dis) were worshipped in a Scandinavian sacrificial festival called Disablot, celebrated in early March. When the Christians invaded, the pagan festival was moved to back to Candlemas. (February 2). “Why do we in this feast carry candles? Because the Gentiles dedicated the month of February to the infernal gods, and as at the beginning of it Pluto stole Proserpine, and her mother Ceres sought her in the night with lighted candles, so they, at the beginning of the month, walked about the city with lighted candles. [1] ~ Pope Innocent XII. The “Gentiles” would not give up their custom, so the Christians replaced Ceres with the Virgin Mary, Candlemas is now the Purification of the Blessed Virgin. It all connects….
Lunar Eclipse For Humanity
This Lunar Eclipse focus’s our attention on the bigger picture. When you overlay conventional religion on top of the myths and astrology, you can see clearly there is a common theme running through all the myths and religions on earth. Could the Lunar eclipse could bring some unity between religions? In Astrotheology there are very obvious connections between astrology and Christianity. Therefore you can be pretty sure that other faiths must relate back to the stars also.
Neptune would like the stars and planets to connect us all, no boundaries. But Saturn reminds us we are still on earth, there are only so many hours in the day and the line has to be drawn somewhere. For astrology too there are divisions among it’s practitioners. The polarity between the traditional and the psychological/esoteric approaches may have to be addressed at this eclipse so that Astrology can rise above it’s demeaning “fortune-telling”, pseudo-science label. The occult is less “occult” thanks to the internet. We are now in the time of the revelations, but not the scary bible version. The original Southern Cross was the cross of life, not the cross of death. It simply tells the story of the Sun rising, culminating and setting. During the Lunar eclipse, the earth interrupts the sun’s rays falling onto the moon and it’s shadow reminds us we are also living on an orb. In astrology, the earth’s symbol is a cross within a circle. The cross, as I said earlier represents the four angles of the chart and the four seasons. The message for this eclipse is crystal clear, “As above, so below”, the earth and every living thing on it cannot avoid natural law.
