Asteroid Isis

Asteroid Isis AstrologyAsteroid Isis is chiefly worshiped as the Goddess of motherhood, magic and fertility. She is also the protector of dead and devoted wife. Isis famously scoured the earth for the dismembered parts of her husband Osiris’s body after his jealous brother Set had chopped him into 14 pieces. She recovered 13 parts, but needed to use her magical ability to create the missing phallus, breathe new life into and even have a son from her formerly dead husband.

Isis’s theme is bringing together, unifying and guarding the Pharaoh; she is the seat of power, the throne and her husband’s support. Isis is also about resurrection, re-assembling and re-membering. Isis is the Egyptian equivalent of Virgo and is the uber-goddess, originator of all dark lunar goddesses. She is the daughter of Nut, the night sky, the nothingness that strings together and upholds the stars with invisible support. Just like her mother she stitches together parts to create one whole being. She creates and unifies.

Asteroid Isis Horoscope

Isis AstrologyIsis was discovered in 1856 in Oxford. The time is an estimate, so I won’t look at the angles. She has Sun sextile Jupiter, Sun trine Lilith and Sun trine Mars which together befit the Goddesses of all Goddesses as a regal warrior queen. Mars opposite Jupiter gives her invincibility and passion to pursue a difficult mission against all odds, to the bitter end. The Sun aspecting two sides of the opposition harmoniously, ensures diplomacy and success. Representing the Virgo archetype, Isis has Spica on the South Node It gives success, renown, riches, a sweet disposition, love of art and science, unscrupulousness, unfruitfulness and injustice to innocence.” [1] Ceres (Spica) itself is on Rigel, which happens to be in her husband Osiris’s constellation Orion. “It gives benevolence, honor, riches, happiness, glory, renown and inventive or mechanical ability.”[2]

Mercury is on Betelgeuse also in Orion! Here it brings “Serious, studious, scientific and literary, fame through writings.”[3] Isis’s strong connection to magic is found in the gift of the Moon/Neptune/Uranus minor grand trine. It’s just wonderful to have the mystic Neptune working in harmony with intuitive flashes from Uranus, both plugging into her lunar wisdom. Moon on Peacock gives her charisma and flamboyant charm.“Pavo is said to give vanity and love of display, together with a long life and sometimes fame.” [4]

Asteroid Isis in Astrology

I would expect then to see Isis strong in writers and strategists. People who can collate disperate information and breathe new life into it. Mars quincunx Pluto is passion and the killer instinct, but the Venus sextile Neptune shows her softer side and utter devotion in love. Those who have a career in the occult and astrology would find Isis very useful to have in their charts because of the strong Mercury and the ability to divine a coherent message from many different symbols. Isis probably carries with it some chance of fame judging by the amount of stars she has promising renown. Hilary Clinton is a good example of a regal Isis woman standing by her man, success in writings and certainly fame. She has Isis in a stellium conjunct Venus and Chiron.

ha, just the other day i was thinking how isis kind of reminds me of a more cerebral, occultist ceres venturing to find her stolen loved-one. in virgo in my chart, she squares my sun.

My Isis is loosely conjunct the ascendant (3 degrees rather than the 2 degrees mentioned), but it closely trines urania which conjoins moon and very loosely conjoins chiron in the 9th house. This is quite a revelation!

My chart also echoes the above-described chart of Isis in that I have both Venus sextile Neptune and Mars square Pluto.

    Thanks for this!

Isis is trine my 12th house (11 degrees) Capricorn sun too!! In Taurus at 12 degrees… I have always been drawn to those wounded warrior types and tried to save them…which has been my 12th house self-undoing! It opposes my midheaven exactly… Well Pluto’s transit to Capricorn is helping me to take my power back…I’ve been a tad ruthless lately. lol I wonder what energy Pluto conjunct my sun trine Isis will bring??

Dont know about SUn..but got it on my moon…lots of changes all for the better I guess. Very hard and it likes to hover back and forth over and over again…

curiouser and curiouser…man, to whom utterly devoted, vanishes without explanation after 4 years (back to determined and equally devoted ex found out later) I cry several rivers, go to art college, make a lot of stuff about it – nothing mawkish, develop an alter ego who searches for truth in meaningless clues just as I am trying to construct a narrative about this bewildering event. My final piece is a sort of home made magical working and during exhibition I find him standing in the middle of it! Freaked out by own witchery.
Isis in 9th square sun and trine Uranus. This magical and Uranian event took place during tr Uranus opposite Uranus. Forgive, yes: trust again, never! I got him back briefly but there was something of the undead about it and I let it go.
    weird. love those goddesses.
    place during tr Ura

What a perfect story to describe Isis and the way she plays in your chart. Thanks for sharing. Sorry about the ex, but I bet it yielded some great art as these things do!

nah it wasn’t great but the ideas were profound – as Michelle (also square sun) describes it earlier in this thread, it was a ‘cerebral, occultist’ search for understanding and an interesting journey.
Love this post and the way you use asteroids to tease out subtleties and undercurrents in a chart.

I have Isis 22 deg. in Aquarius house 10.

Where it conjuncts my Mars Aquarius 23 deg house 10
and Sextiles my Aries Sun 22 deg. house 11

Yeah I relate to being not treated right in relationships, the last one I really bent over backwards for. But the last two relationships I was in…where with mooching scrubs when I was young and didn’t really know what was important. I would shell out some money to show how loyal and caring I am (BAD IDEA)…then they would just keep asking for money that last guy would throw fits and pretty much threaten me if I didn’t. I started to feel like an ATM machine or mom and not their girlfriend.

I am learned now. Swore of scrubs, dead beat, jobless douche bag tools. That’s why I’ve been single for more than a year…I’m hoping that one day I’ll find my (Egyptian? heehee.) king!

and Chiron in Pisces, sounds just like having Venus in Pisces (which I have)

I’ve already mentioned how I just last week found out I have a sibling who was given up for adoption. On a hunch, I checked out where transiting Isis was at the time and wouldn’t you know – I was having my Isis-Return (in Libra, sextile my natal 12th house Uranus in Leo). What’s probably more significant though, is that in my progressed chart, Isis is exactly conjunct (same degree) my natal Mercury and progressed Neptune (all in Scorpio – right at the beginning of the 3rd house cusp). All three (along with my natal 3rd house Jupiter) square my natal 5th house Moon/Kaali.

So like Isis, I’m determined to find someone who’s lost to me, with very little information to go on – really only shreds of evidence, which I’m trying to piece together. Funny also, how leading up to this I’d been having recurring dreams of giving birth. At my age, I knew it *had* to be symbolic.:)

Adding, when I looked back at my Lunar Return for this past month, transiting Isis was in the L.R. 12th, conjunct my natal North Node and Venus, and exactly opposite transiting Ceres and Eris which are obviously conjunct my natal South Node.

Off the subject of Isis, but with both Ceres and Eris involved (they’re exactly opposite in my natal), this also seems to speak to the longing and tenacity of Ceres to reconnect with her lost child. Not coincidentally, transiting Ceres and Eris have been conjunct my mother’s natal 8th house Chiron.

The way astrology consistently plays out through the various archetypal energies never cease to amaze me, especially when asteroids are involved.
