Waldemath’s Dark Moon Lilith

Waldemath’s Moon,Dark Moon Lilith is one of the three Liliths used in astrology. It is not the apogee or the asteroid, but a dust cloud. Out of all the Liliths, the Dark Moon Lilith is the hardest to define. This Moon is also known as Waldemath’s Moon or Sepherial’s Moon. This is the place in our psyche where our primal, impersonal instincts lie. Dark Moon Lilith is also the home of our darkest demons, the ones that desperately need to be channeled creatively, otherwise there is great danger that these gremlins can turn self destructive or destructive to others. It is very apt that this Lilith is often referred to as the “Ghost Moon”, the darkness inside ourselves where we constantly feel haunted by something we can’t quite put our finger on.

“Some say there is a second moon circling the earth- a mysterious, dark moon, seen only rarely when the sky is dark and it is either in opposition to or crossing the suns face. It has a dusky presence that absorbs light rather than reflecting it…Observations by astronomers were recorded as long ago as 1618.” – Kelley Hunter, Living Lilith, 2009

This energy does not do well being used for selfish desire. It needs to be purged via some artistic product, which can then be released out into the collective. Its dark absorbing nature lends it to attracting the negative projections of human emotions. If we shed light on these outside of our skin it could be a way of cleansing wounds suffered by all humanity. These wounds are said to encircle the earth’s vibrational energy field like a black smog. We see expressions of Lilith in fairytales. Witches, owls, sprites, magicians, dragons and all manner of mysterious creatures appeal very much to children and the adults who are still in touch with this primal, mythical world. The rise to fame of Harry Potter is very much a Dark Moon phenomena. How this relates to Lilith herself would be the time when she was in exile and took the form of an owl. It was here she gets the reputation as the baby killer. However Liliths destructive revenge was due to having had her own children being taken away from her. Liliths “babies” can also be metaphors for creativity in general, our artistic products been taken away from us and creative expression denied to us.

Dark Moon Lilith & Childhood

“Rather than withering away in exile, the Lilith shadow grows and flourishes in the same way that she was prolific in breeding demonic offspring on the shores of the Red Sea. When this aspect of Lilith’s shadow is active in our lives, our psyche becomes overwhelmed with images of revenge and retaliation. When the shadow inevitably erupts and violently breaks through our boundaries of constraint, she unleashes the terror of her vengeance.” Demetra George. Mysteries of the Dark Moon 1992

he other connection with children is the word lullaby. “The name is from Assyrian lay’la, Hebrew Lil (night) which already in Accadian meant sorcery. It probably personified the darkness that soothed children to slumber; and the word Lullaby has been derived from Lilith Abi. ” Grace Ellery Williams. So Lullabys were originally sung to protect children from the threat of Lilith taking them while they slept! I found this quote on a religious website blaming SIDs on Lilith.“The word “lullaby” is thought to derive from an incantation designed to repel her……Take precaution by cleaning out your homes and your baby’s room of those abominable things (night lamps made like an owl, elves, smurfs, fairies, etc. Toys can carry many evil powers, and which have been dedicated to a false god.” demonbuster.com

This dark moon can also signify a stolen childhood (through abuse) or children abducted. The fact that a giant owl sculpture is seen at Bohemian Grove is unnerving with the owls association of human sacrifice. The owl symbolism is often pointed out in connection with elite groups and their preying on children. Yes this is indeed abominable. Of course the owl is also the symbol of wisdom too, like the serpent it has positive and negative meanings.

I think the dark moon definitely has a Sado/Masochistic tone to it, this would be emphasised with any aspects to Pluto of course, making it dangerously so. Self destructiveness through the use of drugs is a great temptation, like the forbidden fruit in the garden of Eden. With the Dark Moon however, if one uses its energy creatively and with care, sacred herbs can be used in a shamanic way, to unlock the demons festering in the collective consciousness. The use of psychedelics in the 60’s  inspired an explosion of music and art which was cathartic for some, but it should not become a habit and that’s where the dangers with this dark moon lie.

  1. I have never used the other objects besides h13,h21,h22 because I didn’t know them. Thank you for the article. In my chart, this Dark Moon shows high in the sky, at 6 Leo (my MC is 28 Cancer). Leo in my Chart is intercepted. It makes a semisextile with Venus in Virgo in 11th, a sextile with Juno in Libra in 12th and a trine with Saturn in Aries in 6th, Retrograde. Saturn in my chart had before only three aspects: opposition with Juno, quincunx with Venus and a large (6°) conjunction with True BM retrograde at 14°. I was born scared by fire and nearly died in 2002, I was saved by my twin soul who died at the end of 1999. I am single and had bad experiences with men (my twin soul and I were only friends when he was alive. Now he’s my Spirit Guide). I am a Wiccan since 2001, in spite of my fear of fire, and now work with Salamanders and Dragons.

  2. When I was a kid I also had dreams of my toys turning into these vicious eyes and prying on me, and I could not scream or call for help. I had no voice. Bugs attacking me in sleep and trying to get into my mouth. Spiders creeping down from a ceiling right onto my face. My room being full of webs, swarms of spiders. And the abduction. The memory of it feels very surreal, fuzzy, unclear. I find myself so confused, I completely erased that…dream. Until now. I am slowly starting to remember. But even though I try to bring it up to my consciousness, I seem to keep forgetting…

Something was being done to my legs. And years later there was that ghastly, infamous white hand that grabbed me once again, in my puberty.

    It’s just so eerie…

  3. I have it in my 4th House. It’s closely conjunct asteroid Hekate and my Neptune-Uranus 1° conjunction. Haunted by shadows since I was a child. Attacks usually happen right in between reality and dream, either falling asleep or waking up.

Also, ghosts. I don’t see them, but I sure feel them.

  4. I have Waldemath conjunct an Aquarius Moon in the 7th, both opposing Pluto in Virgo in the 1st, which is conjunct a Leo Ascendant. I would be very interested in any elaboration on what you call “…using the energy creatively and with care”. Any kind of soul retrieval, vision quest or past life therapy I would be interested in if it could go deep enough to root out the evil. Personally, I don’t think any such remedy is available for such primal and atavistic forces. I think we are on our own and need to just expand the light in us as much as we can. The message I am getting from life is that the universe is telling the rest of mankind, “Whatever you do, don’t allow him any opportunities to balance his karma”. I do whatever good I can, anyway. Who is a shaman, etc that is recognized as dealing with this sort of thing?
