The Eight House ~ Samhain

The eight house is associated with taboo subjects such as death and sex. This is also the house of the shadow. I like to think of it as the ‘underworld’ since the house that is opposite is the ‘Gate of Hades’ in the second house. In traditional astrology, the eight house is known as ‘the idle place’.

William Lilly says of the eight house

“The estate of men deceased, death, its quality and nature; the wills, legacies and testaments of men deceased; dowry of the wife, portion of the maid, whether much or little, easy to be obtained or with difficulty. In duels it represents the adversary’s second; in lawsuits the defendant’s friends. What kind of death a man shall die. It signifies fear and anguish of mind.

Who shall enjoy or be heir to the deceased. It rules the privy-parts. Of colours, the green and black.
Of signs it hath Scorpio for cosignificator, and Saturn, the haemorrhoids, the stone, poisons, and bladder are ruled……by this house; and [it] is a succeedent house, and feminine.”

Planets In Eight House Meaning ~ Transits

Sun ~ Moon ~ Mercury ~ Venus

Sun Transit Eight House

The Sun transit the eight house brings with it specimens of humanity that will cause your hair to stand on end in one way or another. You may meet someone that you immediately have very strong feelings for, or against. Watch out for people that make you behave in the most irrational and primal way and say hello to your shadow! This is the month where you slide down into the underworld and come face-to-face with dragons, demons and people that infuriate the most.

After this transit, you can rise victoriously out of the underworld, but don’t think that it ends there. You will also be forced to admit that these repulsive figures are just reflections of your disowned soul. So you might have to do some deep cleansing of your very own back passage so to speak… After this eight house colonic of your ‘privy parts’ (Thanks Lilly!) life lightens up considerably. New horizons beckon and give fresh vistas on your life. This is the time to get metaphysical as the Sun in this sector of the chart questions dogma and shines its brilliance on dimensions you might have been previously blind to.

Moon Transit & Full Moon in Eight House

There is a melodramatic full moon for you. This is where life becomes textbook ‘hammer horror.’ You may feel attracted to the ‘Dark Cupid’ and find yourself obsessing over certain foods, songs, items etc that trigger adrenaline charged emotional reactions from you. You could become quite voyeuristic and things in your life suddenly have a fetishistic quality about them. Will this Full Moon you might have a passing fad about wanting yellow tinted glasses or a blue velvet purse.

The sensory feeling of a type of fabric material can be something you crave, or you may just want to collect many items of the same thing. Yes, the moon transit is a real howler where you feel more of a lunatic than usual. Taking any mind-altering substances will only make things more psychotic so I would avoid this if you know you have an extreme natal chart. Powerful and dangerous people hold a fascination for you at this time, so avoid hanging out with gangsters and get hold of the Godfather Box set DVDs instead. Safer…

Mercury Transit Eight House

This could be a great period if your work happens to involve psychology, as this is a time for deep thinking and mind-probing. Communications at work cannot be taken at face value and it seems like everyone has some Machiavellian scheme behind their moves. It can be quite a difficult period where you see the dark shadow of your own psyche projected onto the co-workers who rile you up the most.

It would be easy to get quite paranoid at this time because the atmosphere at work seems so intense. It could be that you are just projecting your own demons onto your colleagues, so try to hold back from any office politics. The same goes for the self-employed, where you might read emails the wrong way or project your own ‘stuff’ onto FaceBook comments about your work. Notice what is triggering you because it says more about you than them.. yes really!

Take this quiet time to retreat from the madness and be a bit more retrospective. If you have felt quite shy of all the attention it could be that you need to examine why your confidence is not as high as it should be despite your being totally capable and talented. It is time to examine what unconscious drives are holding you back.

Venus Transit Eight House

Love can turn into quite an obsession during this time. You might be pulled towards a totally unsuitable mate, but who nevertheless irresistibly pushes all your buttons. This could be because you have unconsciously attracted into your life someone to help purge out your repressed demons. This is also classic ‘Dark Cupid’ territory, so don’t be surprised if one of these fallen angels swoops into your life at this time. I might be just a passing fling that only lasts for 3 weeks or so, but it will still rock you to your core.

Be careful who you let under your skin while Venus is in your taboo zone. You might find yourself obsessing over a person for months afterwards if you become sexually bonded with them. Think carefully whether you really want to put yourself through those intense, gut-wrenching emotions before you enter the underworld. It could be quite a struggle to get back up into the sunlight again. On the other hand, sometimes, this is just what you need to rid yourself of deep down toxins that are really resistant to removal. Sometimes the body needs to be shocked into the healing crisis that is needed.

  1. Eight house Ceres with the Sun (in Taurus) and Venus (Gemini) sometimes (ok all the time) I feel I simply live in the underworld and just can’t seem to find anyone one might consider balanced and normal. If their closest / basement needs a make over – they’ll find me… lol
