Cancer Decan 2 ~ General Meanings
Cancer decan 2 is ruled by Mercury and Mars (Scorpio triplicity). The Sun scorches its way through the constellations of the Twins, the Greater Dog, the Great Ship, the Lynx and the Unicorn from approximately July 1 – 12. This decan contains probably the most famous stars in the sky, Sirius.
Cancer is also awarded the 2nd most important luminary, the Moon as its ruler since it the first month of life-giving summer in the northern hemisphere. The Moon is the second brightest object in the sky when it is not being mysteriously dark! So it is actually quite befitting that Sirius should find its home in such a hot section of the ecliptic.
Devoted Wolves & Hermit Crabs
We tend to think of Cancerians as being rather soft and pliable due to it being a water sign, but these people are no pushovers. Yes, when they are young they are as cute as hell with their trademark puppydog eyes. Then they grow up to be great hairy wolves…in attractive sheepskin that is. The mix of water with the heat of Sirius makes these people incredibly sultry.
We mustn’t forget that Cancer is also a cardinal sign, which means it has leadership qualities. As the first sector of a new season is pioneering as forceful as the new energies take hold and establish themselves.
Take this fluffy wolf, throw in Mercury the trickster, heat it up with Mars and the dark twin Pollux and you get a very intriguing breed of Cancerian indeed. In myth Mercury conversed between the gods and the underworld, he is a bridge and mediator between the two. Here we have the guides, a light in the inky black night. Dogs can guide the blind just as the stars guided the ships.
There can be a distrust of this decan, possibly because it takes these people a little time to shake off the coal dust from the underworld. They can seem a little scary in the bright sunlight, their ‘black looks’ showing up the wisdom lines in their faces, like coal miners. They come across like old souls in a child’s body which can be a bit disconcerting.
The tarot card associated with this decan is the three of cups. This is a celebratory life and suggests good karma earned much as the trine aspect is. “The Multiple Choice of Feast or Famine aspect of this card could find you moving from a period of drought in your love-life to having several potential partners to choose from all at the one time. If there has been a separation or falling out between partners the Three of Cups can symbolise a happy reunion.” ~ Teachmetarot. The joy of brightest star Sirius shines through here. It could also mean that this life you will have multiple marriages or many children. It could also signify a life spent socializing and organizing parties…

Cancer Decan 2 ~ Fixed Stars
Alzirr 11º, was included in the Arabic 4th manzil, Al Han’ah, meaning ‘The brand-mark’ usually a Brand on the right side of a camel’s, or horse’s, neck. Robson says that the Alzirr/Al Hanah connection signifies that is is “Favorable for hunting, besieging towns, and the revenge of princes, destroys harvests and fruits and hinders the operation of the physician.” Pollux was known as the evil, immortal twin hence the negative associations. Still, we mustn’t forget the influence of the Twins as a whole.
Cancer Decan 2 ~ Planets & Angles
Sun Cancer 2
SIRIUS 14º “Sirius in conjunction with the Sun and well placed in the chart will be found to be the case with numerous important and famous personalities. Possibly, the rise in station is made possible by protection from people of influence.” “ Success in business, occupation connected with metals or other martial affairs, domestic harmony. and “ A person who can be sacrificed to the larger need; a vocation which overrides the normalness of one’s life. To be swept up in emerging events.” [7a]
CANOPUS 15º “ Domestic affliction, trouble with father or parents, financial loss, danger of accidents, burns and fevers, unfavorable end to life.” and “ Leadership which can be inspiration or dictatorial. To have the confidence to pursue one’s plans, but a tendency to over-dominate, over-protect.” [7b]
Austin Coppock calls this decan ‘the walled garden’ and says these people really need the right environment to thrive. “The natives cultivate their life carefully, nurturing their relationships and career toward maturity” But that they are ‘hot house flowers’ and therefore “there is a vulnerability…, and thus a fearfulness … when they are forced out of their comfort zone” As blazing and cardinal as this decan is then, the Sun Cancer 2 is surprisingly vulnerable. However, there are enough formidable characters below, plus the super-power that is the USA. But it is true that this energy really doesn’t like to get out of what it is familiar with, and familiar IS the word. They feel safest within their family group and if they are not close to their blood relatives they will stick close to others they consider to be their tribe. Staying loyal to their clique is also important as that way they can keep their precious protection! We can see how the crab’s shell is very much that protective shield. Canopus shows the dark side of the decan and one where domestic life is far from blissful. This can be because these folk find it so hard to leave their family group, even if they are abusive.
