Cancer Decan 1 ~ General Meaning

Cancer decan 1 is ruled by Venus and the Moon (Cancer triplicity). The Sun gracefully pirouettes through the constellations of the Little Bear, the Twins, the Unicorn, the Dove and the Greater Dog between June 21 – July 1.  Alhena in Gemini has the greatest influence on this decan, followed by the ‘Announcer star’ Mirzam in Canis Major. This star is said to be common in the charts of broadcasters, and there is definitely a media influence here.

These people are extremely opinionated and have to have their say. It’s impossible to put a muzzle on them. Try to gag them and watch out for a rabid fit. Disagree with them if you want to see them roll the whites of their eyes. Cancer 1’s pupil only has to flash ‘Don’t you dare’ and your mouth involuntarily clamps shut. This is how Cancer decan 1 wins arguments. The Cancerian traits such as loyalty to the family, tenaciousness and grasping are made even stronger by the overlay of the dog of Canis Major’s loyal, devoted and faithful nature.

2 Of CupsCertain breeds of dogs can be ruthless and violent in the pursuit of their target but amusingly whimper like babies when their master clicks their finger. And so it is with these subjects. To the outside world, they appear wild, untameable, free-spirited jokers. They come across as uncompromising activists, brave, fearless and sometimes barking-mad. Cancer decan 1 make formidable, outspoken fighters for the underdog and are relentless chasers of the truth.

Persuading Pirouettes & Rabid Loyalty

We mustn’t forget the magical Unicorn which is found here too. Cancer decan 1 show a fascination with magic and the moonlit sky at night. The stars of the Unicorn are not very bright and it’s very hard teasing this constellation out from the Milky Way in which it is tantalizingly swathed. Just when you think you know the people of the crab, they turn into something else, this gives them a fascinating, elusive quality.

The tarot card associated with this decan is the 2 of Cups. This card is very obviously a positive card and associated with relationships. The deeply emotional, intimate and loving side of Cancer plays out really strongly with this card. Karmically although this decan has its ‘rabid’ side. When these folk settle down into a healthy union;

“There is a strong spiritual connection between the couple in the Two of Cups. Looking at them we can’t help but feel that they may have found their soul mate in each other. The couple hold their Cups at equal height symbolising equality and acceptance within the relationship. The maturity that exists between this couple allows both partners to maintain their own independence, friends, hobbies etc outside the relationship without jealousy or possessiveness setting in.” ~ Teachmetarot. With the twins being so active in this decan we can see the potential of finding a twin flame in the current lifetime thanks to the influence of this card.

Sun Cancer 1

Alhena 9º “ Pride, love of ease, luxury and pleasure. There may be martial honors but danger of losing them.” [1]and “A person who has a desire for a mission, to seek or be identified with a cause. To lead a life engaged in large or difficult tasks; to feel lost without a goal or purposeful journey” [2]

The Sun is high in the sky and lovingly shining its rays on all flora and fauna. The Sun Cancer 1 nurtures with its light and is generous with its rays. These people are often seen as a glowing ray of hope in a dull, unkind world. They are the do-gooders and doting parents. This is not always the most practical carer energy, but more of a radiant, emotional supporter. Yes, Cancer is lunar, but it is definitely an extroverted, divine goddess energy. The Sun here conjures up images of dancing in golden fields. Life is lush and we are enjoying the first fruits of the summer. The problem with this endless sunshine is taking one’s good fortune for granted. Sometimes a traumatic event occurs in this persons life that puts an end to the heady, carefree days. Suddenly they wake up to the fact some people in the world are living in a cruel winter. When this happens these folk go serious saviour mode, then their aim is to awaken the seed potential in those that are less fortunate. The activist energy comes out very strongly here as the Solar force heats Cancer 1’s nurturing potential to its very limits.

  1. cancer does suit up in armor, men in particular have a crab face, Scorpio is formidable as well, Pisces develops interior toughness, exposing tender mercies in others….cancer women are often perfect, flawless, made up, lifted, unapproachable, they cling, not willing to let go, the more you try and break free the greater the reason they give you for doing so, emotions running through heavy rhetoric, a big pile of salt and a lot of sorting, you know they are waiting for the phone to ring, so they can really blast you. BUT if you have a sick kid, they are back in a flash, digging in, sleeves rolled, happy as a clam.

    1. wrong wrong wrong, nearly every 1st decan cancer as well as other decan cancers DO NOT cling if anything they struggle to NOT be contained themselves. Many think we are soft pushovers and that we will nurture until it kills us,,,not so we can walk away without a backward glance and if you think showing us weakness will facilitate emotional rescue think again

  2. Ha! There are no casualties, they say. And the celebrities sharing asc. They have been here and there people who profoundly called my attn.

  3. My Sun is at 7°18’59” and when I look at the Astrodienst chart, it seems as if my Sun is sitting right on Alhena, though there are conjunctions with Ferud and Mirzam that read 0s, one with Mebsuta that reads 2a, and one with Propus that says 4s right after the conjunction glyph. What do those numeral-letter combinations mean?

My personality is similar to many of the attributes you mentioned, Marina, though with age I’ve mellowed a little so I can keep my opinions to myself if I have to. 😉

I think the parts about Alhena and a little of Propus are spot on–but I am still waiting for that eminence! 😀

It’s no accident that my Sun isn’t close to Yildun at all: I have no dancing ability whatsoever. The only way anyone can call me graceful is in jest.

  4. I do enjoy all your writing here…however you obviously have it in for someone under this Cancer decan 1….(subltle but obvious)
Is there anything positive to say…because not one thning was mentioned!

    1. I think I have shown the darkside of all the decans. There are loads of positives! Some of my heros are here. Debbie Harry, Isaac Newton, Erin Brochovich, Alan Rickman, John Hurt… Could it be that Cancer decan 1 is more sensitive to the darkstar treatment? 😉
Oh I noticed this decan came up really strongly in a lot of significant event charts (When I 1st met my husband) and also Davison charts with important people in my life. All good I must add!

    2. I didn’t find it negative at all and really identified with the descriptions. I am a Cancer decan 1 with my sun on Tejat Posterior.

I love this series and this site has really furthered my understanding of astrology.

    3. Thanks, that’s good to know :). My Moon/Midheaven can work like a Cancerean and then I worry about hurting peoples feelings!

    4. No hurt feelings…..and yes a touch sensetive as ALL I WANT TO DO IS TALK TALK TALK about all the injustices that I am waking up to..and yes must add that the truth seeker withinin is ROARING LIKE THERE IS NO TOMORROW!! I will not downplay, submit, comform, ever again and will make sure this carries into soul evolution…With that said….just a little something like hey you guys are the ****blablablabla****…but I know Marina ~:-) you are but Truth Love and tell it like it is…as it should be!!
      xoxo

    5. Got my decan’s confused. It’s actually Cancer decan 2 that comes up for me. The one I’m writing right now. Nothing against Cancer 1 though, like I said. Look at the celebs. Didn’t Debbie Harry have such a moon face? Stunning.

  5. Fantastic! June 25 here. I got chills reading this. Very accurate. Thank you!

  6. with Sun, Saturn and Mercury at 7, 8 and 9 degrees of Cancer I could not agree more – with your amazingly subtle, accurate and revealing portray of the forces at hand in this wounded and gifted cluster….thanks Marina!

  7. This definitely sums up my brother.

Thanks for all these breakdowns Marina. Very interesting to read.

  8. My 9th house Jupiter sits exactly on Propus! So happy to learn Propus is highly fortunate!
Thank you very much for the elaborate information!

  9. My Asc. is on Alhena. A very accurate description of who I am and what I do.

    Thanks, as always!

  10. my mother-in-law, she acted in a large repertory company, church coral director, lead Christmas sing-a-longs, that I remember, was 5’ll” very grand, aquiline, dark, part native American, her demon was the bottle and did at times take it out on her family. She also had NN/AS/Libra, Capricorn moon, and mars/mars/cong w/ me, (Taurus)
It took 1/2 a life time to realize, these are good people, so many words, histrionics to digest, she threw it all at me, built traps, camped on my trail…at the same time allowed her children, to cheat her&husband out of their inheritance, the grandchildren and out word appearance of cohesive happy family used as blackmail, she never spoke of it again. The family she loved, who died are never talked of. She guides all conversations, hides pain, expansive gesturing.
My first husband her eldest, died when hit by a drunk driver. This she faced by trying to hurt me, rejecting the grandkids, telling her friends the opposite, showing up uninvited, etc, When the kids were driving age and they could visit they didn’t, before then I dutifully showed up at family get-to-gathers
I fessed up needed help, she gave it, reachable emotionally, after my dad died, I asked her to she took my crazy mom under her vast social wing, to parties and plays, dinners and concerts. she also babysat during my second marriage I had surgery for a broken arm, (the doc forgot antibiotics, but for a night nurse I almost cut out), and was hospitalized 7 days.
My mom has venus here and one summer she did help me w/ nightmares, as I was afraid to fall asleep. “Please mom sit and flip a magazine so I can hear it,” the living room was close to the bedroom and even though dad had gone to bed and she was tired she sat and made noises until I dropped off.
