lucy: Aries figures a lot in mental problems, sun, moon &AC Van Gogh etc. aquarius AC not so much but there.

It depends upon the definition of “mental problems”, mental differences such as a strong vein of genius that is found in the person with an autistic syndrome isn’t a problem in some cases but rather a gift, but it does require adjustments the rest of the world has to get over. Sadly most of the time, in a world where the “normal” reign supreme we have conflicts in style with what is expected and what other people think.

Personally, from my own experience, concerning the many youth I have known to get involved with psychiatric therapy for mild feelings of being “not quite human”.. the “solutions” to differences of perceptions were pretty damned extreme.

So if I say “I see colours when I hear music and have light flashes, and sometimes feel a sensation all over my body”, is this a “mental problem”?, Is this a “disorder” that needs some kind of treatment, or is it a “gift” of a difference of perception?

The same thing can be said of extreme emotional sensitivity, seeing that so many people can be bullied into thinking that what they feel is wrong. Naturally its ok to be upset and depressed when things happen, but we have in some cases a world where people are being literally drugged into submission for feelings of guilt of being different.

Van Gogh had symptoms of epilepsy and he was also drinking very much..people want to dissect his maladies 100 later with terms like “bi polar” and such, and I will not do the same thing that the established psychiatric, psychoactive community does by saying he was an emotionally sensitive person and obviously had the ability to form long term relationships, but because of his inability to help himself (possibly due to the deterioration of his epileptic symptoms and his drinking) he was also very child like and easily taken advantage of as well… but how can I say that when I didn’t even know him? Well these people have an entire diagnosis for him.. I think I have the right to examine his birth chart and say what I think.

Aries has no more and no less “mental problems” than any other signs, however there is emphasis on the head and face, and this may be the reason why one could come to conclusions dealing with a large stellium in Aries. Head injuries also not uncommon with that emphasis, headaches and dizzy spells more often.

My son has a stockpile of planets, points and asteroids in Aries and has sensitivities regarding his hair and doesn’t want it combed, cut or touched too much.

Hi AET – I like your take, although I do happen to think there is a diagnostic element to both astrology and psychoanalysis which can be useful, but, it has a tendency to turn tendencies and potentials into facts, is too often what dominates, reflects the underlying pathology of the user, contributes more to killing the gift than nurturing it and stops us from truly meeting and being with the other, or ourselves – as James Hillman famously once said “we’ve had (over) a hundred years of psychoanalysis and the world is getting worse”….too many dishonoured gifts in a world prejudiced by diagnosis

personally, I have had enough ‘Aries style’ incidents to stop worrying about it but also know that if you don’t get the message, chances are they keep on happening……and my hair went south long time ago!

yes, society is in charge. befor population prevented, GB locked up many a difficult relative ….puritians, rome, the inquisition, the old soviet union, hitlers first victims were children given into ‘state cure’. and don’t forget bedlam

I see Aries thread in mental illness, fire signs often produce 1 sided people.

Virgo, sagittarius& capricorn are overrepresented in crimminality.

You might get your kid soft brushes…children w/ a lot of Aries like being in charge, are natural executives, have good vision, sense of smell, hearing, taste and can often detect trace spices others miss. Sometimes they need to grow into the personality, a six y/o can’t be incharge of much. Public school can be very stressful and stress can drive them to occupations that dull acuteness. Aries can take a lot of physical activity, it doesn’t seem to phase them, they don’t tire. Like all fire signs they love praise. For what it’s worth (as if you don’t know)

The boy in question is a Sun sign Taurus- he’s stopped all hair brushing, hardly lets anyone cut his hair with the exception of his father and he’s not letting us wash it as often as I think it should be washed.

I still have personally not seen any stats on “mental illness” being particular to any signs, but then again, I believe that most signs have certain psychological traits that sometimes mesh with or don’t mesh with certain people-

I take in mind, that even though I know most Leos are not “criminal” I have known many a Leo who didn’t mind taking something that didn’t belong to them. Its from my own perspective and not any other reason. Leo represents the 3rd house for me so.. its not about what the house represents.

I just believe it may have been not enough attention and recognition as a child, even my friend with a Leo moon/mc confessed that she, miss squeaky clean Taurus Sun started shop lifting because of her sister. Because she was sick of never getting anything nice and started stealing clothes. (which she confessed also that she knew it was wrong, but she hated being 2nd best, or even last all the time)

She has a Libra ASC and Venus conjunct Saturn in Pisces, if you want to get the stats there… ;)

I do think even looking to some aspects may not help either, but rather things that are more flexible such as ASC, and houses in regards to the rest of the chart for blanket issues such as criminality or mental issues.

Remember also that our psychological counterparts outside of astrology find the very same traits for “success” are often the same that creates what is commonly known as psychopaths… which can have mental issues as well as criminal issues but can do very well in business.

I used to think that my childhood bestfriend was only having tantrums during her episodes of migraine attacks back in the day. It was frequent and severe and she had to be sedated for the rest of the day.

lucy: Like all fire signs they love praise. For what it’s worth (as if you don’t know)

Regardless of sign, getting lots of praise is very good for one’s self-esteem especially if it’s justly earned. If a child don’t get this at home, he/she tends to seek for it elsewhere. Crucify me if you must but if there’s one thing that no one can stop me from doing is to look for something to praise in other people.

    • lucy says:

I actually think you’re 1 cool person! it’s just that taurus, scorpio, pisces and to a certian extent gemini aren’t driven much by prase. Aries is individual as so needs to know he/she isnot alone. Give an Aries child a mirror and they will check to makesure! Praise is I see, hear ya. confirming presence like their own image. Virgo and Libra work hard and deserve it!

    • AlterEgoTrip says:

yeah, I think children need a certain amount of praise, or at least, if you want to be low key, positive attention for things done.

The problem with many children and parents is that if the attention becomes scarce, in some way, the children will get it not just from outside of the home, but also outside of the positive. In some cases, attention is just that, no matter if it is for something good or something bad.

I think you know where that goes, the daily news.. just look at them.. all babies never having had enough attention in their entire lives ;)

  4. lucy says:

excentricites are the chink and if you have nice stuff they will stick a knife. Aries loves wealth, glamor and will work hard for it. Aries also wants to do right, principled…despises so as not to become and has flashes on insight into others. They literally and sometime humoriously save the day, swooping in w/ truth and justice…don’t forget justices other hand holds a broad sword.

    • lucy says:

actually mental illness and criminal behavior are an old favorite. knowing how and why people think is preemptive medicine and understanding bends the arrow away from one’s heart, conclusions aren’t jumped to, frendships form out of hostility, and some people you can’t trust even if you love them, keep forever out of your life, bare that cross… (all to reading charts correctly)

  5. Marina says:

Hmmmm as you know, I am pretty skeptical of the tropical zodiac, especially when you look into the stars of the constellation aries and find they are all in Taurus a sign very different to the aries archetype. Jamie had a great book which shows which stars rule which part of the body and it very accurate,I think assigning a whole month of people to have “head” issues is way too vague. I really enjoyed looking into Aries here: http://darkstarastrology.com/aries-horoscopes-zodiac-signs-constellation/

I grew up with Aries parents. They happen to go very well with the Aries stereotype, passionate, jealous, childlike, always fighting, yelling italians and not able to empathize very well. They actually have both their Suns at after 24 degs Aries therefore they would still be Aries in Sidereal. But they had other factors too.
    Mum: Moon=Antares and Mars=Algol. Dad Mars=Capulus.

    • lucy says:

i’m an old fashioned sunsign astrologist…everything comes from the sun, constellations incidental. The earth in 360 days travels around the sun and is exposed to 12 different sections, noted in 30 degrees, 60 seconds. the planets likewise pass through the 12 energy fields. The degress of sun earth, moon and nodes are primary. all others hold interest as well and aspects to the sun add to personal vitality etc.

astrology of criminality is self protective. and red flags come true

    • Chris says:

Errr,I have mercury=antares and algol=asc, Marina your mum must have been pretty intense I’m thinking!?

  6. rob says:

    Lucy in the Sky……

…..folks (round ‘ere) used to believe old Earth is flat, at least for a while, having forgotten another knowing, nutters……its a crime! Hang Galileo – better yet, hang the Pope!! (I’ll burn fo that… ;) )

….and did we remember? Did the Solar disc step into flat-Earth shoes….and further forget

……do the stars turn around some unseen center, incidental…..is there anything that isn’t, incidental? Anything that is….’they’ say when the poles shift the whole sky will shift with it – NAAAH, wadatheyknow…..or is it Earth alone that shifts…..birthing new ‘time’, everything in motion……laughter echoes through the forest, drifting on the breath of the stars….

so, is astrology born of the age of Pisces a Taurus and Aries psychic imprint playing out it’s last throws of the dice in the patriarchal gambling rooms….the Sun casts long shadows before it sets….before the Full Moon rises once more……illuminating all within the shadow of the night……..do the stars ever set….

    sound of snoring…..or crickets….

    ….with Diamonds!

  7. lucy says:

You notice rob, constellations shifted w/ time but the ‘signs’ didn’t! constellation; allegory, sun; energy field. EVERYTHING COMES FROM THE SUN. I am amazed that people actually believe constellations are anything more than pictures!

  8. lucy says:

rob, astrology charts put earth in center to acertain AC/MID etc, Astrology dates pre-heliocentric time, the idea died long ago that constellations were source of sign energy even as earth centered charts are still used. stars have energy too, question astroids, Chrion is a commet and the GC is important.

    Kuiper belt: (many astroids)

  9. Jamie says:

Ellie A: My sun is at 10.58 pisces so I can’t see any fixed stars nearby!

There will be a star or two on your Sun I think. This link has lots of stars, longitudes listed for 1950 (precess stars forward 5 minutes every 6 years) constellationsofwords.com/stars/Stars_Michael_Erlewine.htm

    • Ellie A says:

Thanks for the list. I found 2 stars but I’ve found no info on them…YET!!!:-). I’m constellation aquarius though so I’ve that to go on for now.

  10. Jamie says:

    Ellie A:

How do you feel about the sun/moon midpoint? Noel Tyl seems to think it’s very important!

Noel recommended I study midpoints, and I bought the book he suggested, “Midpoints” by Don McBroom. I do recognize the importance of the Sun Moon midpoint but have not yet studied it in charts and with the synastries as you and Lucy have. I should!

    • Ellie A says:

I’ve read most of what’s available online about midpoints, all very interesting…but it can get overwhelming at times as there are so many midpoints to look at. I generally stick to the sun/moon midpoint as it’s amazingly accurate…mostly in relationships…but im still unsure about how it applies to an individual. Noel’s books are really good too, and Basil Fearrington has some great case studies on the themetaarts.com site. I suppose it all boils down to planetary energies, similar to the view you and Marina espouse on aspects, being far more important than signs.

    • Morteza says:

Well, I’ll be damned. After hanivg an intense *peak* experience and being between several dimensions of art, music, and harmony last night, I am feeling Vesta revving up her flame and lighting fire under my arse ..perhaps leading up to the New Moon in last degree of my Leo fifth house .Might explode over here (in a good way). Looking forward to seeing how this gold standard applies and adds its touch. Hopefully it will be a Midas touch. Thanks everyone for teaching me that it’s all happening the way it’s supposed to .and the stars never lie ..:)victoria
