Fixed Star Scheat

January 28, 2010
By

Jupiter conjunct Uranus in June 2010 is on a fixed star called Scheat. In astrology, Scheat has a nasty reputation and we need to understand it’s influence in 2010 because it is highlighted very strongly. This is an opening to the major planetary influence for the years ahead, Uranus square Pluto from 2011 to 2015. It will riase our awareness of what is to come.

Scheat is the beta star (second brightest) of the constellation Pegasus, the Winged Horse. This star is strong in our consciousness now for many reasons. I go into more detail about the actual conjunctions in Jupiter Conjunct Uranus – The Quickening.

Being currently at 29pis30, it is the “Star of Our Age”. In a previous article, The Age of Pegasus I explained that whatever ecliptic constellation has precessed to the Aries point is termed the constellation of the Age. Currently we are in the Age of Pisces, heading toward the Age of Aquarius.

I argued that because the last, and next star of our age is in Pegasus, this era should be termed the Age of Pegasus. This constellation lays between those of Aquarius and Pisces and sits just north of the ecliptic. Scheat is the strongest star to be at the Aries point since Deneb Kaitos in 1814. The next major star to reach this point after Scheat will be alpha Pegasus, Markab in 2470 AD.

1925 AD – 00ari00 – Fixed star tau Pegasus, Kerb
2045 AD - 00ari00 – Fixed star beta Pegasus, Scheat

The mythology of Pegasus is being retold in the upcoming remake of Clash of the Titans, to be released on 26 March 2010, one Saturn cycle after the original movie of 1981. Pegasus was born from the union of Neptune and Medusa (Algol). In the astrological influence of this constellation we can see the themes of the sea and spirituality from Neptune, and the rage from Medusa.

We see this mythology play out in astrology through the influence of Scheat. It causes extreme misfortune with violence (Medusa) connected to the water (Neptune). The flight of Pegasus also manifests in our world today as events related to aircraft and spaceships. So the Star of the Age and a movie makes Scheat important? There is a much more pressing reason why we need to understand the effects of Scheat in 2010. Later this year, Jupiter and Uranus will align with Scheat.
.

Scheat in Mundane Astrology

In 2010 we have  Jupiter conjunct Uranus on Scheat. Both Jupiter and Uranus both turn retrograde after passing Scheat, so each will have three conjunctions to this star. They will both align with Scheat at the same time in May/June and again in September 2010. A rare event in itself, made even more potent as this conjunction is part of a seriously major configuration which astrologers have been warning about for years. “The Cardinal Crisis” with Pluto at the beginning of the sign Capricorn, Saturn in Libra, Uranus in Aries.

The mythology says Scheat is connected to misfortune and water and the air, and the interpretations by astrologers also link these events to the star:

The constellation portends events concerning ships and the ocean and also changes in the weather.” [1]

It (Scheat) causes extreme misfortune, murder, suicide, and drowning.” [2]

“(Scheat) Tied up with ‘malefics’, this could lead the native to lose his life in catastrophes, such as floods, shipwreck, mining accidents, airplane accidents, or maybe suicide.” [3]

Is the mythology and the interpretations of astrologers accurate? Anne Wright in her website, Constellations of Words has done some research which seems to suggest this. In “Events in History” [4] , Anne founds links to many such events. I will just focus on events related to storms and water, and the air (specifically planes, not spaceships). One more link I found was with industrial disputes. Only looking at Uranus and Saturn conjuncting Scheat with orbs under 50′.

Water and Storms

The last time Uranus was on Scheat, the costliest hurricane in history hit America. On September 18 1926, the Great Miami Hurricane killed over 370 people and left 50,000 homeless. In todays terms, it cost $157 billion, compared to $99 billion for hurricane Katrina back in 2005. Uranus was conjunct Scheat by 45′. There were no aspects to Uranus as there will be this year.

The last time Saturn was on Scheat, a ferry sank of Hiati on 01 April 1996 killing over 200 people. On 08 June 1996, an F5 tornado killed 16 people and caused $100 million in damages in Topeka, kansas.

Air Accidents

The last time Uranus was on Scheat: The first African Amercian to hold a pilots licence, Bessie Coleman died after falling 2,000 feet from her aeroplane on 30 April 1926. On 10 May 1926, two pilots parachuted to safety after their planes collided mid-air at Langley Field, Virginia.

The last time Saturn was on Scheat: 03 April 1996, USAF CT-43 crashed in Croatia killing all 35 on board including US Secretary of Commerce Ron Brown. 08 June 1996, an XB-70 Valkyrie and an F-104 Starfighter collided mid-air killing both pilots in Barstow California. 28 July 1996, the US announced that a Lockheed U-2 spy plane had disappeared over Cuba. 06 August 1996, Braniff Airlines Flight 250 crashed in Fall City, Nebraska killing all 42 on board.

Strikes

The last time Uranus was on Scheat: 03 May 1926, the British general strike in support of coal miners started. Over 1.5 million workers walked out which lead to the government declaring martial law. 19 February 1927, another general stike, this time in Shanghai protesting the presence of British troops.

The last time Saturn was on Scheat: 17 June 1996, Air France workers walked out on strike. 29 June 1996, a sailor’s strike ended in the UK. These last two tie in the “air” and “water” themes of Scheat so well.

So the facts do stack up. There is a definite link between the fixed star Scheat and events that astrologers have been saying are related to it. How it supports the mythology of Pegasus is beyond my comprehension but it reinforces my belief that “it is written in the stars”.

With Jupiter amplifying the crazy effects of Uranus later this year, I expect some big headlines in the news. The influence of Scheat should be on full display. Opposed by Saturn and squared by Pluto. The end of July this year sees the action planet Mars join Saturn, so all the malefic planets will be in play in this critical T-Square.

Scheat in the Natal Chart

If you have Scheat prominent in your chart you may be just a little concerned after reading this article so far. It will be a big year for you no doubt with the conjunction of Jupiter and Uranus at this point in your chart, regardless of the effects of Scheat. Awareness is half the problem solved. As Elsbeth Ebertin noted,On the other hand, it is possible for a positive influence to emanate from Scheat, but only for some people, it can have a positive effect on their mental creativity, if these people are ready to receive such inflow“. [3]

There are plenty of examples of people with this star prominent expressing the positive manifestations of Scheat. So much depends on the whole chart, the aspects from Scheat and the other stars in the chart. Sir David Attenborough and Fidel Castro both have their Uranus returns this year, both with Uranus on Scheat. Both extremely successful in their chosen fields.

As an example of the importance of taking the whole chart into consideration, I want to look at just two charts, both with Sun on Scheat. Danger through water and engines, liable to accidents and drowning” [2].

This first chart is that of James McGonagle, a goalie in Canada’s Junior A Hockey League. He tragically died in 2002 aged just 19. He crashed his car “danger through engines” and went through the windshield into water danger through water….liable to accidents and drowning“.

You can see in his chart that Sun in conjunct Scheat by 25′. What made this tough for James was the very tight square from watery Neptune (21′) and the Lunar Nodes (06′). The North Node was conjunct Menhalinan (14′) frequently, violent death” [5]. The Sun was also quincunx Pluto (38′). Interestingly, when he died, transiting Pluto was conjunct his Vertex.

The second chart is that of Brian Mulroney, the Prime Minister of Canada from 1984 to 1993. He also has Sun conjunct Scheat (30′). Here the tight aspects are a square to Mars (33′) and a trine to Pluto (19′). Neither Mars nor Pluto is on any major star, certainly not the nasty star that James’ North Node was on. The trine to Pluto was helpful in taking him to the top of politics. His Sun is also sextile his Midheaven (career) by just 24′. He gained his real power in 1982 when transiting Pluto was on his Vertex, on the most fortunate fixed star Arcturus.

Summary

Fixed stars evolve through time. Like us and our planet, their basic nature stays the same but they are constantly changing. As we evolve, the energy of the fixed stars, and even the planets finds new ways of expression. Scheat wasn’t involved in bringing down aeroplanes two centuries ago, nor spaceships one century ago. Just as technology is effected, so is our consciousness. We will find newer, higher manifestations of even the most dreaded of fixed stars, including nasties like Scheat and Algol.

Ebertin mentioned the positives that can come from Scheat. This year, the positives may come via an unlikely source. Saturn is considered a maelfic planet but it too brings happy things. Directly opposite Scheat is a star in Constellation Argo called Markeb, a Saturn-Jupiter natured star which gives piety, a wide knowledge, educational work and voyages. [6]. Saturn will be on Markeb in April and again in July when Uranus is on Scheat. To bring out the positive manifestation of Scheat, perhaps tapping into the energy of Markeb through Saturn, and learning as much as you can about yourself using Saturnian piety might be useful.

About Scheat in natal: have it myself very close to my Asc.
Worked both in the airplanes for a short perion of time and on the ships now for quite a long time. No catastrophies. It’s always quiet sea when I’m on the ship… thinking that they should pay me some bonus for that (but they don’t) :)

I’m an actor with mid heaven at 29 pisces.

It gets an direct square from uranus (capricorn) in my 6th house, and an direct sextile from my jupiter in (taurus) 11th house.

When Jupiter and Uranus aligned in june 2010, I got a guest spot on a television show.

The night they aligned again in September I was playing a smaller role in a Steven Speilberg production.

    I anticipate 2011 with glee.

Fantastic to hear your story Nathan, Big (Jupiter) breakthoughs (Uranus) for career (Midheaven). Excellent! That’s the really positive creativity of Scheat working for you. The 2011 Jupiter Uranus copnjunction is trine Venus so hopefully some financial goodies coming for you.

Great post! I learn about Scheat.

    Tudo de bom,

I have the fifth house cusp (Placidus) on scheat…

Does this mean in any way that I will not create any thing and there is a problem if I have childrens, Sex also and fun in general?

    please advise.

    Tarek
    Alexandria, Egypt.

    • Jamie on November 29, 2010 at 7:07 am

A lot of people with this star in their charts are very creative, as they have said in their comments here. It is the positive of this star.

    • Marina (Darkstar) on December 23, 2010 at 7:24 am

House cusps and stars don’t figure, and even if they did you would most probably not have it there using another house system so I really wouldn’t worry.

      • Tarek on December 24, 2010 at 4:20 am

Thanks Jamie and Marina, Although your words make me feel kinda of safe but I really have problems having fun.. I am still searching for a logical definition of fun, I am not creative(I didn’t create any thing) also, And I have no children plus I think I don’t like them I see them in public as a sort of noise… I am 33 I am still single in a social culture that I should be married .. And have childrens too… But this is not a peoblem for me… Also my sex life is not constant and irritating, I mean always includes problems associated…
Ammmm. I think I need help.

How can a star 200 light years away (2,000,000,000,000,000 kilometers) have any effect on weather on Earth? Why do floods and bad hurricanes happen when Scheat is not “conjunct” Jupiter or Uranus?

    • Jamie on December 23, 2010 at 5:48 am

Same answer I gave you on Noel’s Forum before you got banned:

“The number and severity of floods this years can be grouped in two distinct timeframes associated with Jupiter and Uranus on Scheat. Of all the fixed stars it is Scheat which is most associated with bad weather, very specific for this star. For constellationsofwords.com/categories/WEATHER.html, Scheat is the ONE singled out for floods. It is also assocated with catastrophies. The research proves it and now so do these recent dramatic events. I looked into the history back in January. The mythology, the interpretation from fixed star experts all say the same thing.

“The constellation portends events concerning ships and the ocean and also changes in the weather.”

“It (Scheat) causes extreme misfortune, murder, suicide, and drowning.”

“(Scheat) Tied up with ‘malefics’, this could lead the native to lose his life in catastrophes, such as floods, shipwreck, mining accidents, airplane accidents, or maybe suicide.” “‘

    Hi Jamie and all,
I just found this interesting debate, about Uranus on Scheat. I was curius to see who- in my database has any planet in the last degrees of Pisces, thus fit the formula.
    The first to pop up was Adolf Eichman with Sun on Scheat,Castro has his Uranus return, right on this star,Heath Ledger’s Mercury+Mars here, died on his Saturn return.; Hillery Clinton’s Moon in here, (29.12 Pisc); Huan Carlos’ Saturn on 29.24 Pisc; Marilyn Monroe’s Uranus,the Pope’s Mercury+ Uranus is here,- he has his Uranus return;
    Super interesting!

    • Jamie on February 28, 2011 at 4:34 pm

Thanks for that Gabriella, Heath’s chart sounds like an interesting one to investigate.

  7. Gabriella on February 28, 2011 at 5:17 pm

Heath Ledger born April 4, 1979 in Perth, Au. died 28 years later, on 22 Jan 2008.At the time I wrote my article about him, I did not use the fixed stars. On the day of his death Jupiter was in opposition to his Moon – releaser of the soul, and t.Mars squared Mercury ( releaser of the body/Mars.(head) the rumor was, he died of over dose of pain-killers, also he was filming and could not fall asleep for days.
I have another question. If Uranus is on Scheat now, where is it on the A.C.G. map? I have Uranus on DSC. right on South Yemen, & on Vancover.

    • Jamie on February 28, 2011 at 5:25 pm

I’m not clued up on astrocartopgraphy myself, not sure if SolarFire has that function. I am very interested though. At the moment, Uranus on Scheat is squre the December lunar eclipse degree, and the lunar nodes. I’ve written about it in the March Forecast: http://darkstarastrology.com/free-march-2011-horoscopes-forecast/ Looking for the spiritual influence and especially the general strike link I found in this blog. Certainly a lot of protests around at the moment. Will be very interested to see how it ties into the A.C.G. map (I got me some learning to do!)

      • Jamie on February 28, 2011 at 5:35 pm

OK, just did the astro-world map chart on astro.com for the 3rd of March 2011, Uranus conjunct Scheat. Uranus MC runs between Benghazi and Triploli in Libya. What does a planetary MC mean in these charts, does this mean Scheat and Uranus are culminating over Libya?

      • Gabriella on February 28, 2011 at 5:56 pm

yes, of course SF has it- search for the globe near the cup with the angles…But I got for March 3, Uranus MC on Brazil,Uranus setting on Jordan…

        • Jamie on February 28, 2011 at 6:02 pm

Thanks, worked it out now on SF. Bit confused at the moment, 4am here. Too many lines! Thanks though for pointing me in this direction.

          • Gabriella on February 28, 2011 at 6:10 pm

Probably you also have Solar Maps- if you have SF.
            not too many lines there..
            4am… lots of research…. :)

  9. Inna on February 14, 2012 at 11:17 am

    Hi Jamie,

I have my little son’s Uranus conjunct Scheat on the border of the 8th House. I am really worried and don’t know how I can help. Is it a true indication for a suicide?

    • Jamie on February 14, 2012 at 12:22 pm

Hi Inna, I don’t worry about the outer planets on these stars too much. He shares this will all the kids his age. If anything it would give this generation some special kind of spiritual insight I would think. There may be some mass conscious past life memory of a deluge or large loss of life from a tsunami or flood. I know you worry when you see it on the 8th house cusp. Although most astrologers do use houses, no one agrees on which house system to use, Placidus, Koch, whole houses etc. Each one will give you a different 8th house cusp. Marina uses the Koch house system but I don’t use any at all, and only pay attention to AC/DC, MC/IC.

  10. Inna on February 14, 2012 at 1:13 pm

    Thank you very much, Jamie!

That is a very interesting view on the past life influence. You are right, I thought about how many kids were born during that time in 2010 and certainly a lot of them have this conjunction in the 8th house. Anyways, thank you very much, I feel much better )))

  11. Victoria on February 16, 2012 at 7:25 am

Hi Jamie – I thought Marina swore by Equal house system??

    • Marina on February 16, 2012 at 11:54 am

I have never sworn by any system! I started with equal because that’s what the Faculty of Astrological studies in London taught, its a good basic system.
Then I have experimented with, in this order:
Placidius, Koch, Porphyry, Whole and then back to Koch. I wrote this post when I was mainly using whole signs: http://darkstarastrology.com/house-system-astrology/

Whole signs are best used for deep-soul based readings. But I don’t rate them when it comes to looking at transits; Eg when planets or progressed moon enters houses. When I started using Huber’s Escoteric method in 2011, they recommend using Koch. Since I always preferred my own chart with it personally I was happy to go back to it. And then I was blown away a few times with its accuracy in terms of making accurate predictions when the progressed moon entered the twelfth house.(To the DAY!) So that REALLY sold it back to me. I wanted to write a post on the Koch system and why I like it only I never got round to it.
So now I use Koch AND whole signs. I’m starting to use whole signs again for Dark Goddess, because its more magical and suits it.

      • Victoria on February 17, 2012 at 10:12 am

“swore by” was just my New Jersey roots showing :-) Thanks for the info, which of course leaves me a bit confused. Hoch for transits, for non-experts like me, is what I’ll take away…
