Conjunctions of Jupiter and Uranus occur about every 14 years. The June 2010 conjunction at 0 degrees Aries is the first of three in this series. The other two are on 19 September 2010 at 29 Pisces, and on January 4 2011 at 27 Pisces.
In astrology, Jupiter is growth and expansion and is considered to be fortunate, with influence over religion, philosophy and social justice. Uranus is change and excitement, it is eccentric and influences revolution, invention, and technology like aeroplanes and the internet. Put these two planets together and we can expect the change and excitement of Uranus to be amplified by the expansiveness of Jupiter.
Growth and the philosophy of Jupiter are subject to Uranian change and unexpected twists and turns. Uranus is also awareness that comes from rapid awakening, and Jupiter is our belief and faith, therefore “The Quickening”. I’m going to have a look at the last two conjunctions then look in more detail at the chart the June 2010 conjunction.
Previous Jupiter Uranus Conjunctions
1983 saw three conjunctions of Jupiter and Uranus. The first conjunction in February was conjunct the Heart of the Scorpio, the malefic Antares. It was also quincunx the Moon as shown in the chart here. On that day 13 people were slain in the Wah Mee massacre in Seattle, USA. Three days ealier, 76 people were killed in the Ash Wednesday bushfires in Australia. Most significantly though, just five days after the exact conjunction, there was a failure of automatic shut-down at the Salem nuclear power plant in New Jersey, USA. This event was significant because of events which occurred during the next two Jupiter Uranus conjunctions later that year.
Within one degree orb of the May 1983 conjunction, the Kursk nuclear reactor in Russia was shut-down due to failure of fuel rods, and Samantha Smith, an American schoolgirl was invited to Russia by their leader Yuri Andropov after he read her letter about her fear of nuclear war. On the same day as the final Jupiter Uranus conjunction of 1983, Stanislav Petrov single handedly saved the world from total nuclear war, he “deviated from standard Soviet protocol by correctly identifying a missile attack warning as a false alarm”. Wiki
There was one conjunction of Jupiter and Uranus in February 1997. I was not conjunct a major fixed star, and had no hard aspects, in fact is was very nicely aspected as shown in this chart. Trined by Mars, and also the focal point of a minor grand trine to Saturn trine Pluto. All these aspects less than one degree orb. The very positive astrology behind this conjunction was reflected in major events at that time, none really, except that the Dow Jones rose above 7000 for the first time. So aspects and fixed stars heavily influence how major conjunctions like this effect us. We do have to take this into account when looking back in order to look forward.
The June 2010 Jupiter Uranus Conjunction
Like the dramatic 1983 Jupiter Uranus conjunction, the ones we are facing now begin with a conjunction to a major fixed star, and with a quincunx aspect. The quincunx is an aspect of tension and uneasiness. The gnawing irritability builds up then needs to be released. As this first conjunction is quincunx Mars, the buildup and release will be fast. That’s one reason I like the phrase “The Quickening”. Another reason is thae Jupiter Uranus conjunction itself, increased awareness. I certainly expect these conjunctions to be accompanied by more dramatic events than the last one in 1997. There are seriously malefic fixed star activated in the chart, plus there is just so much going on astrologically this time around. The T-square with Saturn, Uranus and Pluto is a major influence, as is the upcoming Lunar Eclipse conjunct Pluto. The quickening will hopefully occur in our thinking and consciousness, but it may be a result of events which we witness.
Fixed Stars
These are the major fixed star conjunctions associated with this first Jupiter Uranus conjunction:
Sun conjunct Rigel (36′) “unruly temper, hasty actions, bloodshed, many enemies”.
Mercury conjunct Algol (48′) “misfortune, violence, decapitation, hanging, electrocution and mob violence”.
Venus conjunct Pollux (17′) “Strong and irregulated passions”.
Mars conjunct Regulus (39′) “assassinations, coup d’états, revolutions, revolts, demonstrations, overthrow of heads of state and similar events”.
Mars conjunct Phecda (00′) “a great blood bath”.
Saturn conjunct Zavijava (35′) “combative movements and destructiveness”.
Jupiter and Uranus conjunct Scheat (47′) “extreme misfortune, murder, suicide, and drowning….floods, shipwreck, mining accidents, airplane accidents”. I go into more detail about Scheat in Jupiter Conjunct Uranus – Scheat 2010.
I mentioned a quickening occuring in the mass consciousness, the feeling and thoughts we share as a global community. This may be facilitated by the messenger of the Gods, Mercury, which is sextile the Jupiter Uranus conjunction, and trine Saturn, therefore bridging the gap between the Saturn Uranus opposition. Mercury is conjunct the feared star Algol, but “Algol represented on a chart does not necessarily mean that you will inflict, or be the victim of, horror and mayhem…but that you will be aware of the depths of suffering that can occur, whether through human depravity or “Acts of God”; and you will not be able to ignore suffering and horror, or brush it aside” [Medusa's Head].
New Awareness
This psychic sensitivity is supported by the tight sextile from the Moon to Lilith-Neptune. Magical and dark spiritual feelings finding their way to Saturn for grounding in reality. Saturn is the action point of the Yod aspect pattern in the chart. Jupiter and Uranus are at the reaction point, making this configuration a Boomerang Yod. All the energy from the planets and stars gets expressed though Jupiter and Uranus.
Given the overall chart, I feel that events like we have seen recently (rioting in Thailand, volcano in Iceland, oil spill in America) will continue and be subject to unexpected changes (Uranus) and growth (Jupiter). More events to come of a violent nature as described by the stars, thrilling and fast (quincunx to Mars). All the usual hotspots in the world where conflict is simmering. Israel with Mars on Regulus might make the news. This conjunction is square the Afghanistan Sun, and square the North Korea Uranus.
I still think there is some new awareness at the grass root level to come out of this, the mass consciousness. A good example is this oil spill, now getting sucked into some big bloody current. The world is now realizing the global impact, on us, on the animals in the sea, and we are all becoming aware that we are all feeling the same about this and what it means for our future. Realization on a massive scale about the interconnectedness of life on our planet, and also some insights into what is ahead for us.
Asteroid Eos
When I saw that Jupiter and Uranus were conjunct asteroid Eos, goddess of the dawn, I thought “well that’s nice”. Sort of fits with this Quickening theme I had developed, a rapid expansion of awareness, a new dawn. Karen at Ravenesque has done some research in Asteroid Profile – Eos. “Aphrodite became so irate when she found Ares in the bed of Eos, that she cursed the Dawn Goddess with a ferocious attraction to young mortal men”. Very interesting given the quincunx to Mars (Ares). Some great interpretation there on how this asteroid will have a personal effect during this Jupiter Uranus conjunction.

From 1p to 5p EST the Full Moon (9th) will make a MASSIVE trine from Jupiter/Uranus (5th) and my natal Sun (Ist). I’ll actually be in transit to my McJob at Barnes&Noble GA Tech in Midtown ATL.
I keep forgetting to add that it’s WED., 1/19!
