The Full Moon on February 7 is at 18º Leo 31’, it’s closest aspect is an opposition to Mercury and it falls on the fixed star Merak in Ursa Major, the Great Bear. This star is said to bring a love of command and domination if the sign Leo is tenanted, well the Moon is in tropical Leo. Merak also gives one the power to move on in life. The theme of courage continues as the big brave seeds of the Eagle Altair were planted at the last New Moon. We get some signs of what is coming to a head from two weeks ago. All the stars in the bear exude a quiet strength, but raise hell when roused. The Moon aspects may give a clue to what is stirring in the pot. Domestic security is threatened and we know this bear gets pretty vengeful when some one messes with her cubs.

February Full Moon Aspects

Moon opposite Mercury is going to be touchy about family matters. Communications will be difficult because of the blurring of clear thinking with hang-ups that originate from childhood. There is also an internal battle between the logical mind and gut instinct. But the restlessness creates a very driven personality.

The state of flux could feel like the tides washing in and out, purifying. But also a time when we will feel rather strung out so there might be the temptation to self-medicate! But do try to resist if you have to make an important decision. A clear head is needed.

As this is a full Moon, we also have Sun conjunct Mercury which can give an over active imagination and odd phobias. People are prone to seeing the bogie men of their childhood under this influence. Anyone taking hallucinogenics at this full moon is gonna see weird shit! Not least because retrograde Mars is on the fixed star Denebola, the lions pissed-off tail and Venus is on…well yes it’s…Scheat “Evil environment, suffering through own acts, danger of imprisonment or restraint”.

Full Moon on Asteroid Zelia

With the full Moon on asteroid Zelia, the paranoid atmosphere from this Moon could indeed bring amply ones worst fears and bring on a psychosomatic attack of the goolies. Zelia is the feminine form of Zelus which “personifies dedication, emulation, eager rivalry, envy, jealousy, and zeal.” Could these goolies then merely be an attack of the green-eyed monster? As we have seen from the aspects, childhood insecurities are clouding rational judgement. The mood is ripe for a crime of passion here. However there is a saviour of a trine between Saturn and Neptune which may help some discern what is real (Saturn) and what is fantasy (Neptune)

This could be a bitch of a Moon for those in its line of fire (18º fixed signs). Mercury’s involvement means some salacious gossip and a media love scandal. I say this because once you stick hellraiser/come seductress Eris in there you also get a repeat quincunx from Mars retrograde. The very same aspect as from the Full Moon of January 9. I wrote “Mars was on the cranky lions tail Denebola, just before the Full Moon – Thaw! This moon also talked about victimization, since we had a grand trine to Sedna. Mars was also revving up Eris too. Full Moon Yod

This revisited quincunx gives us a rather rampant Yod with the Sun/Mercury conjunction sextile Eris, both quincunxing the Mars retrograde. Those who actually have anything at 21º Virgo need to be vigilant. Mars here is vindictive and cruel. If scandal should arise then this star causes public disgrace! It could be something as trite as a spurned lover taking revenge with a kiss and tell or more seriously according to the Ebertins Denebola’s volatility can also cause major catastrophes. Mars was at 22º Virgo opposite the Vertex when the Costa Concordia crashed on January 13. So keep safe people and stay away from trouble. The bitter edge to this moon presses on all our insecurities. Light candles and pray quietly, but do not stoke the fire. Avoid getting caught in habitual karmic cycles of playing the victim. Sometimes the bravest thing is to walk away.

Moon opposite Mercury

Artistically this aspect shows itself rather like the conjunction in that there is often a real close attention giving to the small details of their subject whether it be clothing, architecture, visual appearance or behavior. It’s those little, personal observations that give poignancy to their work. As individuals however they may gain the reputation as being overly pedantic, picky or being too much of a dilettante. Moon opposition Mercury may know their own neighborhood inside out, but be very wary about traveling further a field. A very nervous aspect, there is danger of needing to self medicate in order to calm the nerves. This could result in addiction problems where there are other indicators in the chart. All in all though, these people are survivors because of their ability to adapt chameleon-like to their environment and the experience they gain from the constant change feeds their creative products also. Moon opposite Mercury can manifest as a magic wand once they have come to peace with themselves and tamed the mind to work with their intuition. These people are highly strung so they do need to put their energies into something creative through which they can channel their restlessness.

Visual artist Cindy Sherman (23′) is a good example of the mimicry and the attention to detail. Mars stations retrograde on the 23rd of January 2012, 18 hours after the bold and brave January New Moon. Mars will traverse up and down 3 – 23 degrees Virgo and will spend roughly 10 days on a degree while it stations These degrees will become highly sensitized. My take on Mars retrograde is as usual different from most Astrologers. The retrograde effect is an illusion, but the fact that it aspects one degree 3 times is very real. Just as I said for Mercury retrograde, I believe this period gives us a chance to look at things from a right-brain perspective. The effect is cyclical not linear, it is internalized and intuitive. It is suggested that this a time where we find it hard to express our anger and become passive aggressive, I’m not sure I believe this to be so.

Mars Retrograde Meaning

Mars is in retrograde motion for an average of two and a half months every two years, which is only 10% of the time. What I do think happens, is that the Mars impulse is slowed down and deepened. Mars retrograde makes a lasting impression and every move is planned carefully and strategically. I have read that Mars retrograde is akin to it traveling in the 12th house, which to me makes more sense as I was thinking the feel is quite Neptunian/Plutonian. I believe Mars retrograde is about karmic rebalancing and it’s mission is spiritualised.

The effect of the fixed stars that Mars hits on it’s path with be the coloring factor to this retrograde in 2012. A Mars retrograde is a long drawn out affair that happens every two years. Since Mars is about sex as well as well as war, it will cause us to re-evaluate our sexual relationships. Our ambitions and goals also come under scrutiny. If you look at the chart you will see the dates when each of the degrees in Virgo get retraced. Things started in the shadow period from the 19th November until the 24th of January will get two more hits. During the retrograde you will be able to turns things round and see them from another angle. Then when they are direct again in the out-going shadow you get to see if the decision or idea was really viable or not.

In my opinion then, I think Mars could do with having the heat taken out of it at times, this gives it a chance to make daring decisions with a cool head. Another point to consider is whether to start a war. In modern days, war-mongering could be to start legal proceedings or initiate a new business venture. Tradition opinion is to wait till Mars is direct again. I think it all depends on whether your intentions are honorable, because the universe will take charge of the outcome. Retrograde cycles are fated times, one must surrender to the forces. Mars is about bravery and confronting danger. So Mars retrograde is like riding a choppy 12th house sea. More Saturnian/left brain types may like to wait until things are calmer and have more control of their vessel. But true swash-buckling adventurers will trust that if Neptune loves you, he will get you there unexpectedly faster and award you a bounty of treasure for your courage.

Mars Retrograde 2012

Mars set sail into the shadow zone on November 18. Our hero hit the fixed star Zosma in constellation Leo on December 5, it was also benefited by a kindly trine from Venus. This could’ve been a time of turning things around if you have been feeling victimized. Some compromises were made after a row. Hasty words to Mars from Mercury square. On the January 8 Mars was on the cranky lions tail Denebola, just before the Full Moon – Thaw! This moon also talked about victimization, since we had a grand trine to Sedna. Mars was also revving up Eris too. You will not see the last of skeletons let out of the closest on this day, they come back to haunt you around the 1st week of February and are resolved between June 16-18. January 22 sees Mars hit the fixed star Alkes, the Holy Grail. This star refers to gifts and talents passed down through the family. However, those gifts can come with a price as there is some unexpected events and disorder indicated. This star is activated for a good few days while Mars is stationing retrograde. So we are made to look what family traits we want to keep and which ones are causing upset in our lives.

Mars stations retrograde January 23 and remains within orb of Alkes until January 30. The retrograde chart itself gives us a very powerful Mars/Sedna/Mercury grand trine. Mercury is exactly on the Peacock while Mars is still on Alkes of course. We have already talked about Sedna and it’s history of betrayal from the father. There certainly seems to be a theme of ancestral inheritance, for good or for ill. Peacock was said to represent Argos the builder of the famous ship Argo (A constellation). I think this is quite apt since I was likening this whole Mars cycle as being somewhat like a voyage.

Fixed star Peacock gives a long life and sometimes fame, maybe this is our prize if we are brave enough to set sail during a Mars retrograde. There is certainly a sea-faring theme to this cycle with Sedna featuring in a few grand trines. We may risk being thrown overboard by a treacherous boss or father figure, but in our despair we find our true calling. Since this retrograde occurs after a new Moon, then the seeds of intention we plant here carry extra poignancy. We go deeper with them, but these are longer term goals and we will have to wait for June 19 before they bear fruit. What sweet fruit they will be!

Mars re-visits the turbulent feline Denebola February 6 and opposes Mercury/Moon on February 22, which could bring on a tempest. Time to batten the hatches. What’s more the transiting nodes are on the powerful Antares/Aldebaran axis. This is an incredibly fated, nodal time when the archangels will be watching. We revisit December 22 2011 again as a pre-christmas ghost bellows about the sails. March 12 we get an interesting grand trine that involves a the Lilith conjunction Jupiter and Pluto. This is a fantastically potent and magical moment. Mars on Zosma in Leo again suggests the possibility of transforming the victim into the saviour. So a time when pussy-cats lions get their courage from Oz and belt out an almighty roar. This trine lasts until March 22.

Mars stations direct on April 14. Mars passes over Zosma again May 22 and seals the deal as a result of the brave outburst back on March 12. Mars is also still empowered by a trine from Pluto on ruthless Facies. Mars back on spikey Denebola on June 16 which may bring up a bitter and vindictive backlash from who ever got shafted during the nautical shake-up. But that’s just a blip. At the end of our journey we can all drink Rum punch from the cup of Alkes as Mars says it’s last goodbyes to 23 Virgo and sails off into the sunset.

In Esoteric Astrology the seven solar systems are said to revolve around the Pleiades star cluster, and of course there are many websites all over the net claiming to have channelled information from them. “The Pleiades’ role, then, is to help seekers become consciously aware of Divine Knowledge and Wisdom, which is why their etheric, astral and mental bodies must be purified before being able to integrate with that spiritual realm. The Pleiades represent a spiritual “station” where the Perfect Model within seekers is energized and comes alive on earth.”Plotinus.

So it’s really no wonder that the Pleiades feature so strongly in 2012 astrology. The Pleiades are revered up to the present day by Ufologists and they are also featured in the Cherokee Rattlesnake Prophecy which Jamie has already talked about.We are all expecting mass awakening but what is it about this constellation in particular that inspires such great expectation? It is strange because when you study Alcyone’s actual meaning, it really is a mixed bag and although it confers wisdom, there is also a bunch of really negative associations also. This maybe due to the Christian suspicion of any thing magical, but if you look at some of the subjects there is some truth to Robson’s grim interpretations.

Pleiades the Gay Stars?

Another association with Alcyone is homosexuality. Both Robson’s and Ebertin’s books were published around 1930 when gay sex was still illegal. Just like any fixed star associated with wild female sexuality was demonized, so it is the case with Alcyone. I would read Robson’s interpretations bearing this in mind, which why I have set them beside Bernadette Brady’s evaluations for comparison.

So the Pleiades are generally seen as exceedingly Venusian, which seems to be a “bad thing” within old school fixed stars astrology. Stars having Mars and Jupiter qualities are deemed brave and honorable, probably because they were so useful in war. Whereas Venus? Useless in a fight it seems…. Here’s what Manilus says about the Pleiades star cluster: “they will smooth their hairy limbs with the porous pumice, loathing their manhood and craving for sleekness of arm. They adopt feminine dress, footwear donned not for wear but for show, and an affected effeminate gait. They are ashamed of their sex; “ 1.

Ok, there actually are few great homosexual examples in the list. The best example is the beautiful and supremely talented Rufus Wainwright, who has Alcyone rising by 42’. He is the perfect Venusian gentleman and is certainly not ashamed of his sex. He dresses occasionally very flamboyantly, but mostly tastefully and romantically, like an 18th century poet. Rufus has also had his brush with death when he was raped and nearly strangled aged 14 in a park. Later he suffered also suffered with Alcyone’s threat of blindness. At the height of Rufus’s crystal meth addiction in 2002 he temporarily lost his vision. He is no longer an addict and his musical direction has matured to include his passion for opera. I note David Beckham is also in the rising list. Despite being a manly football idol, he is certainly not in the slightest bit bothered about wearing feminine garments! He has been known to sport a sarong and nail paint,which is  refreshing in the macho field of sport.

“The Pleiades gives ambition and endeavor, which gives preferment, honor and glory. Not a good omen with regard to relationships to the opposite sex”. 2.  I do see some evidence of “disgrace” in some of the celebrities below, usually stemming from scandalous love affairs that threatened their public profile. The effect of Venusian indulgences in the form of alcohol or drug abuse, are also observed to have a detrimental effect on some of these peoples careers and performances.

“The Pleiades causes bereavement, mourning, sorrows and tragedies.” 3.  Alcyone is a cluster, so it is also said  to give blindness or accidents to the face, but the modern interpretation of eyesight problems is inner vision. There are a fair few fatal car accidents and drug-related premature deaths on the celebrity list, so the proximity to death is clearly there. This star is also associated with judgement of the dead and fate. Because this cluster rose at sunset around November, in many countries a day was set aside around this time to mourn those who died in battle. So this star has connections with passing over to other dimensions, this is where the mystical side of it comes into it and the attainment of occult wisdom. The judgemental side of this star can be quite harsh though, because it dishes out karma with no mercy or compassion.

Gruesomely, in common with Robson’s more negative findings, Alcyone with the Sun gives us one subject who truly did possess an “Evil disposition”. Serial Killer Jeffery Dahmer took the lives of 17 men and boys. His murders involved rape, mutilation, necrophilia and even cannibalism.

The myth of Scylla and Charybdis has come to mean having to choose between two difficult situations. If you look at the new moon in the chart it does indeed look like it is caught between a rock (Saturn) and a hard-on.. (Jupiter conjunct Lilith ). It looks like various sets of groups and collectives are getting together to attack Saturn. I say attack because Altair is a military star. Possibly we could see a few completely unrelated people or ideas suddenly come together and there is a realization. A sudden surge of courage to face the bully erupts out of nowhere. Bravery seems to be the theme or at least a great many people at once realising their power.

New Moon Aspects

The closest aspect is Moon square Jupiter. I wrote: “This aspect knows no restraint and can over-react, over-reach and promise the world when it has no idea if it can deliver. Moon square Jupiter is a gambler and risk taker, 90% of the time luck does swing their way, but when they do fail, they fail spectacularly.” This gambling aspect seems to fit quite well with having to navigate between two dangerous situations. This may be describing a situation where one has to have nerves of steel and keep a poker face while staring in the face of the Scylla in your life.

The next aspect is Moon sextile Uranus. I wrote: “ a Venusian, artistic aspect and flowers an original and eccentric mind that thinks outside the box. These people are innovators and inventors. They usually have an instinct for what is about to happen and are hip to new trends…Uranus combined with the Moon is quite an activist when it comes to improving domestic conditions.” Again this kind of energy is just what we need if we want to improve the conditions of the whole of humanity living on planets earth. She is our home.

I have not looked at Moon sextile Ceres in detail, which is yet another aspect of this Moon, but this to me it would certainly be a flowering of ecological energy and care of mother earth. I did study Sun sextile Ceres however (Sun and Moon are conjunct) I wrote: “Ceres of course has that sad tinge of sorrow, loss and separation, but with the sextile the subject is consciously steering away from the dark days and trying to use the experience to make the world a better place.”

New Moon on Altair

I love how all these aspects do support the new moon being on the fixed star Altair. This is a very hectic moon and requires the weight of the noble Eagle to carry this agenda through. Negotiating the hazardous waters between Scylla and Charybdis is no mean feat as Charybdis is a treacherous whirlpool. Some of the key words I came up with for Altair were brave, valiant, daring and unyielding. This star has the gift of strategy, which is prefect to negotiate itself through this immensely risky situation. Because this situation takes more than just a sense of “Gung Ho”, it also takes some fancy footwork and a cunning plan…

For this moon then, plant your most daring seeds, but be prepared to have the courage of your convinctions. You will certainly be asked to put your money where your mouth is. If you make bold promises you will be expected to keep to them or risk been branded a fake and a charlatan. Altair is a star that attracts a lot of criticism, mostly undeservedly so and mainly due to envy of it’s awes-inspiring presence. However, there are times when the puffed-up, overblown posturing wears a bit thin and one will be asked to jump on ones steed and go show us the money.

Synastry Compatibility 

Finding true love with a soulmate is not all that it’s cracked up to be. It’s more likely to be a case of “Help, I’ve found my soul mate!” In synastry astrology, the 7th house is not just the house of marriage, it is also the house of open enemies. It is also opposed the 1st house of the physical self. Therefore the supposed “Soul mate” relationship is very often a tug of war on many levels. What may feel destined could also be a number of things. The beloved could be reflecting strongly back to you your animus or anima, what you are lacking in your chart, what you have disowned in your chart or, when the relationship turns sour, your worst demons.

With synastry chart compatibility, squares and challenging synastry aspects between a couple are karmic aspects and can be extremely challenging. These will usually enable you to “fast-track” your spiritual evolution by burning off a ton of ingrained karma. Often a soul mate comes into your life simply to do this, but it does not mean it is life long. Negative karma from the past can attract you even more strongly than positive karma. Hence those impossible, gut-wrenching, and often unrequited love affairs.

I don’t believe an Astrologer can or should ever tell you “This is THE one”. It could be “A” one however, and they can certainly show you exactly why you have been pulled together. You will also be able to see why you find it so hard to break up even if the relationship is making you miserable. Usually these are Moon/Saturn contacts.

Looking at the charts individually first is crucial to see what each person can handle in a relationship. Some people just cannot take too much drama, others would be bored without it. Some may need a very cosy domestic 24/7 togetherness, while others crave space, so that a long distance romance might actually suit. Therefore it’s really rather pointless saying “Oh my Sun is conjunct his Moon, we are destined!” if one of you is a thrill seeker and the other likes vegging infront of the TV.

Relationships are the best teacher and love horoscope compatibility using synastry aspects can certainly see what type of lessons you are learning from each other. There are 3 ways to do this, and that is through casting the Composite, Davison and Draconic charts.

One of the most illuminating things to look out for, is when the partners important planets or points make a conjunction with the Sun, Moon, AC, Nodes or Vertex in the Davison chart. It shows how important the relationship is for each of them. It will reveal if one is more attached to the union than the other.

Symbols and themes will keep repeating themselves and a story will come out. The Tarot which is looked at with the Nodes will often confirm this. It is very important to look at the connections from the Davison to the couples natal charts. Strong indicators of many lives together and/or a karmic mission will be confirmed if the couple have conjunctions to the big 3 (Sun/Moon/AC). We have found the Nodes and the Vertex very important also.

Our Davison Chart

The big stand-out theme in our own Davison chart is the fact the tight North Node/Vertex conjunction in our synastry falls on the Sun of the Davison. Important synastry between the couples own birthchart’s and the Davison is crucial to dittermine if the relationship itself is important to them both. In our Davison chart the big feature is that the Sun is tightly opposed the Moon (27′) which means our SouthNode/Anti-Vertex falls on that Moon too making it all the more potent.

What is lovely about Huber charts is they do paint pictures, this is deliberate and is counted as part of the interpretation. In this we get what looks like two sail boats, the larger one containing the important Sun opposite Moon. It looks like the two of us voyaging along the astrological sea, the fixed stars above us serving as guides. It also looks rather like Sydney opera house!

I like the fact that travel is a theme with Jupiter in the first boat, very apt since we live 10000 miles apart. In the second boat we have Mercury (writing), Venus (art/love) and Mars opposite Lilith (sex & war) which describes our website pretty much. Look at abundant Ceres and Jupiter in the 5th. 4 kids between us, but also a fertile ground for creativity.

The closest star to the all important Sun is on is Mirfak in Perseus. This is the arm that cut off Medusa’s (Algol) head, we both have our demons to slay, and part of our mission with Darkstar is to help other address their own. I do see Perseus as some sort of exorcist. Further away but more important as a star is Alcyone (The Pleiades) on our Sun. Again it is another one of those Darkstars with a mixed reputation. “The ruthless visionary, a passionate but potentially arrogant person.” [1]. In my research I found Alcyone to be wise and magical, but it’s true it has not been an easy ride for us both. We have had our share of scandal and rockiness in relationships.

The rising star in the chart will show our souls journey and the impression we give to others. The closest star is Biham on the face of our friend Pegasus. Pegasus was born of Medusa’s blood. This connects with our Sun, heroic Perseus. If we can slay our demons both personally and in our work, we can reach for the stars like Pegasus.It also suggests ambition and long distance travel. More Pegasus, I like Chiron the Astrologer up front in the 1st house sitting on controversial Scheat! I is also sextile our Sun. There is no escape from the Astrology either, Uranus in the 7th, a married couple who are Astrologers. We do battle however, Mars square Venus can be stressful in a working relationship with a spouse. Competitive, but creative. Venus will tend to win because she is on the brightest star in the sky Sirius. Mars can be tricky on Algorab... I was very pleased to see that we had Antares the heart of the Scorpion and Archangel star on the MC with Alderbaran, Archangel Michael on the IC protecting us.

Fortunate aspects to the luminaries are important, and we have Jupiter’s blessing (A trine to the Moon) to the competitive Sun/Moon opposition, we do need that because  those very archetypical Sun/Moon, Venus/Mars hard aspects certainly show some sort of battle of the sexes. Not showing up here because its a Huber chart is the fact Lilith is opposite Mars too! Also not showing, a mystic rectangle with the Nodes and AC/DC and a high flying kite between the Sun/Moon/Jupiter and Chiron.

Soulmate Synastry 

Davison charts often show very clear karma between a couple and clues to their past lives. I’m pretty sure Jamie and I have worked together before, I also think we have always had the issue of work/family balance also. (Mars square Ceres). The best synastry in the world however does not guarantee ever-lasting happiness. I show our chart here as a good example of a life changing and catalystic relationship. It’s a very strong and dynamic chart, but not necessarily an easy one.

Looking at our synastry with the Davison. It is interesting that my AC is 2 degrees off our Mercury (Writing/Astrology) on Rigel “Scientific, prominent position in connection with Mercurial matters or in science.” [2] While Jamie’s DC is our Ceres (The children). Our challenge is the reversing of traditional roles, as a single father of three young children, Jamie has had to take the role of the mother. I, on the other hand, am very much used to my independence. Having only one child and free weekends leaves me much time to write. When we live together, all this will change. Can this chart take on the challenge?

The Constellation Aquilla 

“The English word eagle comes from Latin aquila. The word aquila, eagle, is believed to mean ‘water-colored bird’ and is related to Latin aqua  -, water, as is Aquarius” [Klein].

It is interesting that this star does fall in early Aquarius, as while I was researching this I started to see where some of the meaning for the Zodiac definition of Aquarius may have originated. For example the Eagle has the ability to see from great heights but has poor close up vision. Aquarians are known for needing space, but at the same time are great visionaries. They will be keen humanitarians, but paradoxically can withdraw and freeze over if a friend gets too clingy or demanding of their precious time.

“Influences: According to Ptolemy the influence of Aquila is similar to that of Mars and Jupiter. It is said to give great imagination, strong passions, indomitable will, a dominating character, influence over others, clairvoyance, a keen penetrating mind and ability for chemical research.” 1. 

Aquila is the talent scout. In myth he is Zeus in the form of an Eagle that spotted the handsome young Prince Ganymede. Almighty Zeus having taken the form of the Eagle, snatched the boy by his talons and appointed him to be the lover and cup-bearer (Aquarius again) to the Gods. You can you can see Aquila the eagle hovering above the head of the water bearer in the heavens, but he is depicted carrying the beautiful youth Antinous in Roman versions of the constellation shown here. The Greek version has Ganymedes is often representing the god of homosexual love, which sits well with Uranian-ruled Aquarius, since Uranus is sometimes thought of being the gay planet!

A rather traditional astrologer once told me, that all Aquarian women were androgynous and “butch” looking, presumably because of Uranus’s asexual reputation. I also find it rather amusing that Robson says of Aquilla “It has also been said to give a love of swimming (Aqua), and to be connected with certain sex irregularities, the latter probably being greatest in that part of the constellation lying in Capricorn” 1. I just see this attribute as being part of Aquilla’s daring and risque nature. Of course the combination of Mars and Jupiter is bound to create a high libido. That sex drive with the boldness will result in the subject being unashamedly “outre” about their sexuality, whether you be a brazen lassie or a raging queen.

That sexuality is important to Aquilla makes sense when you see that the Kabalists associate it with the Tarot card “The Lovers” and it also has associations with the sexy sign Scorpio. (The Eagle also is a symbol for Scorpio as Archangel Oriel. The angelic representation of Royal star Antares, Watcher of the West.) Chilled Aquarius (the Sun Sign) is not generally noted for the “Strong passions” mentioned by Robson above, so when we add Aquila we get an extra spicy layer. Zeus was known as the god of lightening. Fire is spirit and the eagle was seen as the instrument of calling fire down from heaven, just like Zeus/Jupiter’s thunderbolts. Eagles were released over the body of the dead Roman Emperor, because they believed that the eagle would carry the deceased soul up into Heaven.

Now again we can see just how this relates to the Aquarian myth as Liz Green associates Prometheus with Aquarius. I think this all fits so very well. Prometheus possesses Aquila’s boldness, being the daring human who stole fire from the gods. This is a humanitarian action, an act of great courage, not for personal glory but for the greater good of mankind.

In mundane astrology, Anne Wright has found an association between the constellation Aquila and the USA, space exploration, kidnapping, and bombs and missiles.

Altair Star Astrology

“Altair is good for advancement of lawyers and military men” 2.

“It confers a bold, confident, valiant, unyielding, ambitious and liberal nature, great and sudden but ephemeral wealth, and a position of command, makes its natives guilty of bloodshed, and gives danger from reptiles” 1.

It is interesting that the natural enemy of the Eagle is the reptile. But I also think this maybe a symbol of Altair’s natural urge to rise above the limbic/reptilian brain and resist using that potentially flammable Martian/Jupiter energy for gratuitous bloodshed and to puff up its own ego.

“Altair is associated with boldness and action but this boldness is also connected to human relationships and caring. This star carries the divine fire of inspiration, which transforms into determination, the ability to achieve through risk-taking or through dogged determination. This is a star of action and strength and so will naturally action rather than inaction. At the same time this quest for action is not just for its own sake but also to serve others”  3.

For me Altair can be the perfect archetype of male conquering authority and awe-inspiring greatness. It is somewhat heroic, but not in a brash Martian way. It is more refined, like a chivalrous knight. I’m thinking 3 parts Sir Galahad to one part Sir Lancalot. In a woman this would be a Joan of Arc rather than a Boudecca.

However things can go horribly wrong with Altair, as Manilus rightly points out. Sarah Aldrete the notorious serial killer has it rising, I’m wondering if the state of ones Jupiter defines how this star plays out, since this star is Jupiter in disguise. Sarah has Jupiter on Algol while Carl Jung’s Jupiter is on far more fortunate Arcturus.

Altair Star Celebrities 

I have put Robson’s (1) more extreme interpretations next to Brady’s (3)toned down approach. Please bear in mind Brady uses parans to come up with her meanings whereas Robson and I are using the Ptolemy’s ecliptic method. I think Brady’s interpretations work well despite the different methodology. The celebrities I looked up using stars on the ecliptic method on Solar Fire.

Fixed Star Astrology > Altair

The full moon on January 9 is at 18 degrees 25’ Cancer. It is on fixed star Wasat that sits between the Gemini twins. The Sun part of this full moon makes a grand trine with Mars and Sedna. Mars is very active on this moon, it revs up both dark goddesses Eris and Sedna. Remember Lilith is still empowered by Jupiter after their Christmas Eve smooch. So I’m expecting ice queen Sedna to thaw big time, thanks to some smooth talking from bridge-builder Wasat.

From June 2012 Sedna will be within 1 deg of Capulus, the slayer of Medusa’s Head (Algol). In August 2013 it will be exact. Right now she is retrograding back towards Capulus, and starting to melt. Studying Sedna has been illuminating. Jamie found it to be linked to earth changes, her angry earthquakes that can cause tsunamis. This is the part in the myth when the shamans of the world have to placate Sedna by combing her unruly hair. A perfect job for Wasat the diplomat, for Mars (Roman Ares) is also winding up his sister Eris. Wasat has a dark side to it, so it is quite capable at handling gory matters and building alliances in the most trying of circumstances. Both these planets are apt to flare up unexpectedly, so this hot full moon will help bring things to a head for resolution.

At this particular January full moon, any pending and undigested Christmas gripes will regurgitate themselves. Just when you had thought you had packed away the Christmas decorations and the three kings, you find a straggly bit of angry holly stuck to your slipper. This is Mars on the fixed star Denebola, the cranky lions tail. It “has a Uranian nature and it is supposed that, in mundane horoscopes, major catastrophes are triggered off by it.” Hopefully it won’t be yet another earthquake. Personally and mundanely, it might just be a little aftershock, a short, sharp outburst that ties up something that was left pending, once and for all.

This Sedna grand trine should help us bring up those long buried demons and family skeletons that I mentioned in the Sedna post. Although we have a grand trine, there is still a T-square to Eris, so someone will throw an apple-bomb into the works. There is almost a kite aspect pattern here, which can be very beneficial in the long term once the opposition is negotiate. However in the short term, things could get very fraught and tiresome. The trick is to keep reminding ourselves there is a bigger if we can keep ourselves from being drawn into petty squabbles and ego tit for tat. Coming from a spiteful Denebola on Mars: it can be “Bitter, vindictive, cruel, unpopular, loss of position and public disgrace. “

Full Moon January 2012 Horoscope

The closest aspect to the Moon is a square from Eris, Angelina Jolie, Gadaffi and Judy Garland all have this in hard aspect. Eris is an outer, higher octave of the Lilith archetype, which Sedna is to some extent as well. So the Moon is being aspected by two dark Goddess energies. Eris and Sedna, two sides of the same Inanna/Eriskigal coin, opposite yet the same. This energy will work somewhat like a collective version of Moon square Lilith, a period where we all address our propensity to use sex as a drug, rather than its great potential to enlighten. I had found Sedna to have a connection to sex being cut off from the heart chakra, causing a form of frigidity. This moon brings up the issue of exiled feminine and those triangular relationships where the mother archetype is separated from the sexual. Another manifestation of this is having to balance motherhood with a spiritual path or vocation. Difficult choices.

However as I said at the start, Lilith is being empowered by Jupiter, which I already wrote about in the Lilith conjunct Jupiter post. The evolution started with the Christmas Eve New Moon. Now this New Year moon with Eris/Sedna applies what we learnt then to a wider perspective and prepares us for the other two Jupiter/Lilith conjunctions in 2012 (March and December).

The conjunction is a hard aspect and the Moon with Mercury makes for quite an odd fit since the Moon can be quite clingy and stuck in the past while Mercury is flighty and ever youthful. What they both share though is the tendency to meander through life and change with the tides. In a very changeable chart this might be a person who finds is hard to stick at anything and is given to fads. At worst this person can be a cheat and someone who you couldn’t trust as far as you could throw him.

The archetype has the feel of the magician about it. Thoughts are things and this person could conjure themselves up a beautiful domestic arrangement if they can focus on their dreams for long enough. A Mercurial flavoured Moon gives a great sense of humour, charm and instinctive timing. Actors do well with this aspect and it can make a person a great mimic. This persons also loves to chat, chat, chat! They need to talk about their feelings, family, day to day life to anyone that will listen, it is often hard to get a word in. They are great entertainers though, so if you invite them to your dinner party you know your guests wont get bored! They can also be great campaigners, speaking out on behalf of the general public. There is also something very childlike and naive about them, as parents they often act more like a sibling to their child.

Moon conjunct Mercury Celebrities

Muhammid Ali is a great example of the super-planet created by this conjunction. Ali was very vocal in his objection to the Vietnam war, the boxing champion was stripped of his title for draft evasion. Ali had a unique style of boxing for a heavy weight. He did not carry his hands high to protect his face, instead he relied on quicksilver fancy footwork to avoid punches. The man describes this manner beautifully in his most famous phrase. “Float like a butterfly, sting like a Bee”. Very Mercurial. He also used the power of words to intimidate his opponents with his “trash talk”. Ali was famous for his pre-match hype in which he cleverly used rhymes to stir up the crowd in his favour.

The planet Sedna was discovered in 2003, but not announced until a year later due to needing to confirm its existance for sure. Sedna’s discovery was only possible because right now it’s at it perihelion, closest to earth. See Jamie’s section below, Sedna Mundane Astrology, for information on it’s far-out orbit. Eris was discovered two years later, so like Eris, Sedna has also been thought of as the 10th planet, the missing Dark Goddess archetype and the exiled feminine.

Goddess Sedna 

The myth is quite horrifying. Sedna’s father is widowed and desperate to marry off his eligible daughter, she refuses all his choices. At his wits end and in punishment, Sedna is forced to marry the pet dog! When the dog actually mates with Sedna so she gives birth to doggy babies, her father is so shamed and horrified that he throws her out onto the streets. Feeling poor, abandoned and lonely, Sedna then thinks marriage maybe a good idea, if only to have a comfy bed! So in haste she hooks up with the first charming and apparently well-dressed man that comes along.

Unfortunately, once safely married, the smooth-talker reveals himself to be a lousy crow man, with no wealth to his name, just a stinky old nest. Sedna is besides herself with disappointment. But instead of telling scrawny features where to stick his tatty feathers she wails loudly and helplessly for hours on end until her guilt-stricken father come to rescue her. Mr Crow returns from his scavenging furious to find his prize catch is missing, and sets off to find Sedna and her father escaping on a boat. His rage whips up a fierce storm and in the panic, Sednas father decides save his own skin by throwing Sedna off the rapidly unstable and sinking boat.

Sedna though, tenacious and stubborn that she is, will not accept her fate. She clings onto the side of the boat for dear life, until her exasperated father hacks of her fingers one by one. Sedna has no choice but to surrender herself to the icy depths. Stripped of everything and left with pitiful stumps for hands, Sedna literally hits rock bottom. At the bottom of the Ocean, she realises her fingers are transforming into seals and her palms into whales and dolphins. She becomes the Queen of the sea creatures, her life purpose and ultimate serenity. However, when her mass of unruly hair becomes tangled she becomes enraged again and threatens to withhold her bounty. The good shamen know that in order to ensure an abundant supply of fish, they need to soothe and comfort Sedna by brushing her hair.

As you can see the story ends well; like the Persephone myth it is transformation, but this time it is child who is too clinging and possessive of her parent, rather than the mother (Ceres) in the Persephone myth. The lesson here is not accepting being the victim, turning the situation round and turning an extreme negative into an extreme positive.

Sedna Astrology

During so-called “good transits” by Sedna, a person will make money – but the profits will corrupt the person’s soul to the very core. And then Sedna will eat the person alive.”  [Magi Astrology]

“Sedna’s myth may exemplify a female who does not want to commit in marriage, participate with men, or even be here on Earth, due to her fear of being hurt–an unresolved issue or molding from her unfortunate past, one that only perpetuates a life of loneliness. “ [Lunar Planner]

The tightest aspect in the chart is the tenacious Mars/Saturn trine. This will give great stamina and a strong will. Seeing things till the bitter end. This is Sedna’s stubborn nature, clinging to her father and security. Mars is in the fathers house, the 4th, squaring Venus. This is the unhappy marriage and anger from the father. The fear of commitment due to being betrayed and hurt comes from Lilith in the 7th and the trine to Uranus only adds more feeling cut-off and abandoned. Uranus on the IC, a frozen past and shock buried at the root of the chart. Fomalhaut, the mystical royal star is there, the chance of redemption and eternal fame, but also of messing up big time if one does not act with utter integrity.

Wow, the DC is Capulus – aggressive, sexual male energy, the sword that decapitated Medusa, and within orb of Algol. (Medusa’s head). The partner can be the source of transformation, the death of her or in the end her saviour. This is where victim or victimizer comes to play in relationships. Capulus of course reflects the fathers brutal finger chopping. Sun in the 12th house is utterly appropriate and Neptune itself is un-aspected, making it free to act pure Neptune, which can bring pure, poisonous deception. The Sun is on the South Node, both are on Unukalhai in the snake, showing past life betrayal buried deep in the 12th. It is said to be dangerous and destructive “of the nature of Saturn and Mars; It gives immorality, accidents, violence and danger of poison. “

The chart is redeemed by Ceres trine to the AC (the conservationist) and Sun trine Moon. The nurturing principle is utilised in protecting the sea creatures and the Sun trine Moon balances the conscious with the unconscious. Here we have Sedna’s so yearned for inner marriage, which was also the very thing she feared the most. Saturn Mars can be fear of sex, hence my theory that Sedna can be frigid. Mars square Venus also has issues about bringing sex together with intimacy. Mars opposite Jupiter can be a huge sex drive however, so with Jupiter in the 10th this might be diverted instead into a successful career.

That Moon in the taboo 8th happens to be on Pollux the evil twin, conjunct Ceres on Procyon the little dog. (Sedna’s shameful, doggy-babies). This is Sedna’s dirty buried secret. The very aspect that could liberate her (trine Sun and AC) is also the aspect that she is most embarrassed about. This is how her victimiser keeps her from her power, telling her she is a dirty, perverted slut. Poison Neptunian crow man words along with Phecda on the MC, is the bloodlust and corruption you see in unscrupulous low-end Sedna businesses. Crowman Pimp is also shown by Mercury on psycho star Acrab in Scorpio squaring the parental MC/IC axis. Lilith is also squaring this axis too, showing Sedna in exile from her home.

Now the piece de resistance…. The Persephone Yod! Made up of the Moon sextile the North Node/DC/Sedna conjunction, both quincunx our friend Pluto in the first. Remember DC is also on Capulus. So this Yod is constantly yearning for transformation and intensity, pointing at the 1st house, the physical body. Moon on Pollux, wanting to cut out this evil twin, frozen and septic inside. DC is the knife or possible the axe. The whole Yod is like an executioner, but to get to the demon one has to hack away, years and years of black ice. Black on black, where is it!?! Hard to fathom. It is interesting that Pluto is conjunct Venus too (Persephone) and Venus semi-sextile Chiron (Wounds) in the 2nd (Self esteem).

I think the chart reflects the myth really well. Only time will tell if this way of looking at the new discoveries will help us understand how they work in the chart. Planet Sedna Mundane Astrology 

Sedna has the longest orbital period of any planet by far, taking about 11,400 years to orbit the Sun. It also has a very elongated orbit as shown in the diagram on the right. It is now approaching it’s perihelion, or closest distance to the Sun, expected to be in 2076. The last time Sedna was this close to earth was in 9400 BC which was the beginning of the Neolithic Age when we started harvesting wild cereals and keeping animals like dogs and goats. We were evolving away from our nomadic roots.

In paleoclimatology, 9400 BC was the start of the Pre-Boreal Period, coinciding with a “sharp rise in temperature over 50 years” [wiki] which led to inundation of low lying areas of our planet. Sound familiar? This make me believe that Sedna is linked to climate change and earth changes. Sedna was only discovered less than a decade ago, it reaches it perihelion in about 60 years, and we are experiencing rapid temperature rise. In the mythology, Sedna is is goddess of the sea, becoming wrathful when we do not look after her. We are polluting the sea, overfishing is driving species to extinction, human induced temperature rise is melting ice into the oceans. I would expect these changes to escalate as Sedna nears earth.

Looking at conjunctions of Saturn and Uranus to Sedna over the last 100 years we find many natural disasters including earthquakes and the Tunguska Even. There are also many other tragedies like the Lindbergh kidnapping, the first AIDS death in North America, and the plane crash into the ocean which killed John F. Kennedy Jr, his wife and her sister.
