Solar Eclipse May 2012 Horoscope

The closest aspect to the moon is a square from Neptune. We know Neptune’s waters can be holy uplifting water or vile septic poison depending on the intention and vibration of the individual. Neptune is on Archangel star Fomalhaut, which can also go either way, sinner or saint. With Neptune Fomalhaut is “Sharp, shrewd, self-seeking, analytical, detective ability, many secret enemies, connected with secret affairs or government work.” This Neptune is squaring the eclipse Nodes and it is also most fitting that this solar eclipse is conjunct Egeria, Roman goddess of the healing spring, sacred wisdom and childbirth.

There is certainly a watery theme then. This eclipse contains the potential of deep cleansing hydrotherapy of the soul or for those stubborn demonic stains comes complete with added hydroblast water jet! I say this because of the amount of potent stars and a super-conjunction that are adding juice to this eclipse. We have a tight Venus trine Saturn which I think is beautifully healing and powerful for lovers to affirm their commitment to one another no matter how treacherous the icky Neptunian sea gets.

Venus is in the busiest part of the sky as far as lucky and brave stars go, she is within orb of Phact in the dove, Capella in the charioteer, El Nath in the horns of Taurus and closest of all to Alnilam in Orions belt. Robson see’s Venus with Alnilam as “Trouble through love affairs and scandal”. This is possible if we go down the low vibration route, but considering the optimistic stars I’ll go with Brady’s “A good negotiator or mediator. To understand the creative nature of connections between different ideas or groups of people” [1] I see the positive side, since Venus does love a good trine with Saturn, especially when Mr commitment is on the brilliant fixed star Spica. This combination makes it popular and good for gain. I think business and striking deals are favoured and as this is the last time a direct Saturn passes over Spica (Exact August 4) I think we should get some lasting resolution from this final meeting.

Another element of this Venusian water jet is a Mercury/Jupiter/Sedna super-conjunction and they are all on Capulus, in the exorcising arm of Perseus the gorgon slayer. Jupiter is within orb of Medusa - Algol  itself. If Sedna is the Goddess of the sea and Jupiter is large, then are we in danger of an epic flood? It may just be that this is symbolic flooding, perhaps a mass release of emotion and tears which serves as a collective cleansing. Sometimes sorrow is necessary to break open heart-chakras that have hardened and petrified themselves. A broken heart is at least is an open empathic heart and this may be the great gift the Pleiades have for us.

Gemini Solar Eclipse Aspects

Moon square Neptune I found to be incredibly sensitive and compassionate, even if it is sometimes aimed at the totally wrong subject. In the right setting however, this otherwise dreamy, druggy and escapist aspect could even achieve something quite miraculous. As always we must look at the whole chart. Moon square Neptune on its own could point to addictions and misplaced martyrdom. Since the rest of this eclipse chart has the sensible Saturn/Venus trine and also a feisty Pluto/Mars trine, I think the redemptive quality of this square would be the most likely manifestation of what is potentially quite a poisonous and deceptive aspect.

The asteroid that the moon falls on has a miraculous feel about it too since Egeria is associated with holy water that has healing and medicinal properties. Egeria was an oracle and counsellor to King Numa, together they wrote twelve books. Interestingly the theme of mourning comes up again. Legend has it that when Numa died, Egeria was so distraught that the goddess Diana turned her into a curative spring. Numa was buried with their sacred literature. 500 years later a heavy rainfall washed away the earth above the coffins and the books were rediscovered. Unfortunately the Romans found the books at odds with their religious practices so they burned them.

Solar Eclipse Astrological Meaning

The Neptunian theme of deception and occult buried wisdom is interesting in combination with the cleansing water V liquid poison elements. This solar eclipse is also about sorrow, tears, broken hearts, open hearts, empathy, compassion and eventual redemption. There could be a collective tragedy, maybe a flood, which galvanises charities and politicians around the world to do something large scale. This mass empathy could be enough to melt those hearts that have been encased in ice for too long.

The concept of Neptune moving into Pisces has been one that I have heard mentioned by various occult  commentators and of course tropical astrologers. Although we are Darkstar prefer to follow the movements of the planets against the sidereal fixed stars, I can definitely see tropical themes being reflected in my own work despite using a slightly different system. Neptune on Fomalhaut and this eclipse in the weeping Pleiades definitely shows humanity in some sort of healing crisis while the energy is shifting all around us. As Neptune moves on through the mystical stars of sidereal Aquarius and Pegasus we should see some interesting marriages between science and spirituality. So the planet of mystic awareness, Neptune, moving through the most magical part of space must mean something for the collective. I think this eclipse with its very psychic Moon square Neptune must foretell something of what we can expect.

Venus in retrograde motion is supposed to mean that our love lives enter a fated period where we may relive past life experiences in order to sort out karmic issues. Old friends or lovers may reappear and there may be more difficulty in giving and receiving love and affection. As Venus also rules money, it’s traditionally thought that Venus retrograde is not an ideal time for investing or buying luxury items. To get a more accurate picture we must look in more detail to the aspects and fixed stars in relation to Venus, from when she enters the retrograde zone, to when she leaves. Venus retrograde is not as common as Mercury retrograde, and only last about six weeks every twenty months.

Venus Retrograde Dates

Venus Enters The Retrograde Zone

Venus is still travelling at her normal pace when she enters the retrograde zone on 11 April 2012. The aspects and fixed star will give us an indication of the overall vibe for the whole retrograde cycle. It does have a very karmic feel which fits nicely with the traditional concept of retrograde planets. This karmic feel comes from Venus conjunct the South Node of the Moon by a mere five minutes. Click on the thumbnail below to see the chart. This suggests that our love lives really will go through a period of reliving past love life experiences. The South Node also indicates that some of our more negative habits or attitudes about love and relationships will be brought to light, and that the more troubling aspects of our relationships will be highlighted.

For sure, it can also mean that we run into old friends and lovers again, from this life and past lives. Any new relationships formed during the next few months will likely be past life connections, we will get that feeling of having known them before. The aim of all this is to resolve painful karmic memories. This is because the other very tight aspect is Venus square Chiron, we are being forced to face our inner pain in relation to love, the pain of being dumped or humiliated by infidelity, or the karmic pain cause by doing this to others. Moon quincunx Venus tells of the emotional tension caused by the pain, within the family, and especially for the women affected, the wife, mothers, sisters and daughters.

Venus enters the retrograde zone, and will station direct on the fixed star Hyadum II in the Hyades of Taurus. This supports the theme of exposing broken hearts, as Robson says it gives “tears, sudden events, violence…and contradictions of fortune“. Ebertin found that the Hyades can cause people to “exploit other human beings in quest of power“. Venus square Chiron means we are forced, through events and through relationships, to face the pain of the past. By doing so, the difficult work of healing the pain can begin, this is the nature of Chiron, wounding to heal.

Venus travels over some major fixed stars on her journey, between 7 and 24 degrees Gemini is the busiest past of the sky for fixed stars. We will only look at the brightest of these. The brightest of all in the region is the fixed star Aldebaran, in the eye of the Bull. Venus is conjunct Aldebaran for the first of three times on April 15. Around this date is a good time for lovin’, as Venus with this star is favorable for marriage. Venus passes over another very fortunate star for love on April 25. Venus conjunct the fixed star Rigel gives a “good and influential marriage especially if female“.

Mercury sextile Venus on May 3 and 4 is a great opportunity to express our feelings of love. Communication should be open and compassionate. However, with Venus on the fixed star Bellatrix in constellation Orion, being too friendly with others if already attached could lead to that Chiron pain. Venus with Bellatrix gives “Much suffering through love affairs owing to unrestrained feelings“. Mercury sextile Venus could lead to those unrestrained feeling of love. Financially though, this should be a good couple of days, as Bellatrix is associated with wealth and gives “Quick decision making, thoughts and plans being realized with energy, courage, fighting spirit, strategic talents, ability to organize, discrimination.” This star also reminds us to place more value of personal qualities when looking for a partner, Bellatrix is “Associated with marriage for money and honors followed by reverses“. These issues could be brought up now if they occurred in the past.

Venus Stationary Retrograde May 2012

Venus stations retrograde on 15 May 2012 at 23°59′ Gemini. Venus is conjunct the fixed star Alnilam, the star in the middle of Orion’s Belt. It will also leave the retrograde zone on this star. The theme of pain again comes up, as Venus with Alnilam gives “Trouble through love affairs, scandal, enemies among women“. But the Chiron theme means the outcome is healing. And we see this with the aspect in this chart, Venus trine Saturn. It’s not exciting or glamorous, but serious and sober. Saturn is our teacher, so we are learning about love and affection.

The trine to Saturn suggests progress in this next phase of the retrograde cycle, through to the direct station on June 27. More understanding, more commitment. Commitment to long term relationships seems very important here, that is the message from this aspect, and the fixed stars have been pointing to the pain resulting from infidelity. Saturn on the most fortunate of stars Spica, is “favorable for domestic matters“. The work on the pain and the hurt is not over, we can see this in the chart above with Mars opposite Chiron. Some difficult issues to deal with, confronting and involving some arguments or resentment. The path does lead to healing and transformation through open communication. This is shown by the grand trine with Mercury, Mars and Pluto

On May 27 Venus conjuncts Bellatrix for the second time, so we may revisit any of those painful issues again regarding affairs or love triangles from the past. It may also be that an old flame appears on the scene again. Venus conjunct Mercury on the 1st of June at 8 Gemini really puts the focus on communication in relationships. We will be able to fully express our affections with loving words. Interactions should be frank and open, and with a square from Mars approaching, there could be some heated moments.

On June 5 we do get Venus square Mars, feelings should be intense, with a mixture of love and hate, sexual passion and desire. There may be some conflict, but Venus on the fixed star Rigel is more supportive of love rather than hate, Venus on this star gives a “good and influential marriage especially if female“.

June 6 is a very special day with Sun conjunct Venus. Not just any old conjunction, this one is a rare transit of Venus, where Venus is seen as a black dot passing in front of the Sun. This is the last transit of Venus for over 100 years, Venus is retrograde, it comes just after the June 4 lunar eclipse, and is mentioned in the Cherokee Rattlesnake Prophecy. Sun conjunct Venus is the personification of love and beauty, love is definitely in the air today, more than at any other time. Meeting friends, spending time with lovers, and chatting up potential lovers are all favored.

Venus is conjunct Aldebaran for the second time on June 16, “favorable for marriage“. Venus is slowing right down now, about to station direct, sextile Uranus. So Venus sextile Uranus is within one degree orb from June 18 to July 8. This is very fortunate and suggests major breakthroughs in those relationship issues which have been causing problems. It also means that finding a new lover is more likely, and that they will be stimulating, exotic or unusual, or that the relationships will be unusual in some way or really fun but not so enduring, more of a fling. The first exact sextile is on June 21.

Venus Stationary Direct June 2012

On June 27, Venus stations direct at 7°29′ Gemini on the fixed star Hyadum II, the same spot the journey started. Back then, Venus was conjunct the South Node and square Chiron. Now the only tight aspect is Venus quincunx Pluto. So we could say the pain at confronting the negative aspects of our relationships, and our own weaknesses in how we love has now peaked. This final phase is about adjusting to a new dynamic in relationships, the give and take, and then settling at a new power sharing arrangement. Venus is love, Pluto is transformation, the quincunx is an aspect of karmic readjustment. Our relationships and how we love each other and ourselves is evolving.

Venus turning direct comes very close to the first Uranus square Pluto aspect on June 24 as you can see in the thumbnail left. So this adjustment in relationships and how we love comes at a time of major and dramatic changes. It mean the big transformations are now so much more personal, and it very positive suggesting enlightenment, given that Venus ties into this via the sextile to Uranus. It helps us deal with great change in a compassionate and universally loving way.

Even though we are now on the home stretch in this Venus retrograde journey, phases three of three, we will continue to work on these issues well into next year. This is because Venus entered the shadow zone, and stationed direct at 7 degrees Gemini, and the lunar eclipse on 28 November 2012 is also at 7 degrees Gemini, and lunar eclipses do put a focus on our relationships.

From July 2 to 16, Mercury sextile Venus again opens up the communication channels in our relationships. We had this aspect back in early May before Venus had turned retrograde. Now, in the final direct phase, it gives a much longer than usual time for affectionate sharing of thoughts, and for the resolving of the tension which has been ongoing for some time now. This will likely climax around July 5 with Venus at 8 degrees Gemini sextile Uranus. Venus is at the midpoint of a trine from Mercury to Uranus. So Venus is the focal point of a minor grand trine, an aspect pattern which uncovers secrets, in this case through creative inspiration or flashes of insight. There is the possibility of unexpected news, new information which leads to higher awareness and breakthroughs.

From now on there are a few conjunctions of Venus to the fixed stars before the journey ends. July 9, Venus is conjunct Aldebaran, “favorable for marriage“. July 22 Venus conjunct Rigel ”good and influential marriage especially if female“. July 27 , Venus conjunct Bellatrix  ”Much suffering through love affairs owing to unrestrained feelings“

Venus Leaves the Retrograde Zone

The journey ends on July 31 2012 with Venus leaving the retrograde zone at 24 Gemini, the same position at the retrograde station. The same star Alnilam with Venus gives  ”Trouble through love affairs, scandal, enemies among women“. This has been the major theme running through all this story. It started with confronting the karmic pain, the deep wound in the soul memory of being abandoned, betrayed or rejected. Just like the retrograde station, Venus is trine Saturn meaning the end result is maturity and wisdom from having dealt seriously with the issues and any guilt or shame is lifted.

This time Saturn is on the other very fortunate star, Arcturus, “Popular, gifts and favors from friends, some false friends of own sex“. This false friends of own sex makes sense when the main theme has been the other woman or the other man, triangular relationships. This will be important again in the November 2012 Lunar Eclipse which is conjunct Lilith (triangular relationships and the other woman). It is also the focal point of a Yod aspect pattern to Venus and Pluto, intense power struggles in these complex relationships.

You can see in the chart left for Venus leaving the retrograde zone that Sun trine Uranus will bring higher self awareness and the confidence to express ourselves in a new and unique way, more open minded and experimental. The Sun is the focal point of a Yod aspect pattern. This means that the end to this Venus retrograde story entails a special mission, karmic in nature. It’s about our ego, it was hurt in love,  or it has been bruised once we became aware of the pain we caused lovers in the past. The quincunx aspects (karmic readjustment) in this Yod go to Chiron and Pluto. Evolutionary healing, intense healing zeroing in on our very identiry and sense of self.

So the journey is one of healing a broken heart. We all have this somehwere, either now in time, or in the past. Venus retrograde in 2012 is intense, a transit of Venus, an eclipse, Uranus square Pluto, and all those major fixed fixed stars with an emphasis on love relationships. This final chart shows the end result, a more mature approach to loving, and the healing and transformation of the wounded ego.

It is over a year since the 8.9 Earthquake struck Sendai in Japan

Clif helped develop “the Web Bot Project in the late 1990s. It’s an Internet bot software program or a web spider that originally was designed to predict stock market trends. Eventually it developed into something different. Now it’s claimed to be able to predict future events by tracking keywords on the web.” Red Ice Radio. From studing the trends, Clif  has made a prediction that there will be a further explosion at Fukushima after another earthquake. He has even come up with a date: July 10 2012. He says the consequences of this 2nd explosion are nothing less than grave and will affect everyone in the northern hemisphere. Not just through the air, he says it will permeate all our food up here too. Needless to say I really hope he is wrong! I admit don’t know the science behind this. I am just interested in what the stars have to say.

Jamie has already looked at the astrology behind the Japan Earthquake and Fukushima Plant Explosion the next day. The previous December 2010 Lunar Eclipse (which I called “Ball Breaker”) then had been on fiery “Red giant” Betelgeuse, itself going supernova in the heavens. Japans Moon is on Betelgeuse. Transiting Uranus on disastrous Scheat was squaring Japans Moon further activated this hot spot. The south node of the Earthquake chart was also on Japans Moon on Betelgeuse. I shudder over what I wrote concerning that eclipse “ Betelgeuse is gasping and puffing on it’s death bed. The feeling is that we are at the end of an era and that this overblown giant wants to go out with a bang. Maybe the best thing to do is just stand back and enjoy the fireworks knowing we are being somehow taken care of.”  I hope we are being taken care of.

Transits to Japan Horoscope

What is this year’s Solar eclipse doing to Japan then? It falls on Japan’s Neptune, which is on none other than the notorious Alcyone in the Pleiades. Generally this is not a good omen, since the Pleiades. “causes bereavement, mourning, sorrows and tragedies”. Neptune rules poisons and of course the sea. Much of the seafood in this area is now sadly radioactive and unfit for consumption. If I go by what I generally predict for eclipses, then this could go either way as the title for this eclipse was a hopeful one and spoke of magical cleansing. We would need that cleansing  this prediction of Clifs came true. I don’t like seeing poisonous Neptune aspected like this after looking at my eclipse forecast. Nor do I like Pluto being inflated by transiting Jupiter either. This Jupiter/Ceres conjunction amplifies Pluto too. Ceres and Pluto were conjunct during the Icelandic Volcano eruption, which grounded airplanes in Europe. I wrote back then “So Ceres in conjunct with Pluto raises issues then of whether we “Choose Life” or dice with death as shown by the last few times they were in conjunction.Ceres will confront powerful big business and take them to task over their raping and pillaging of the earth.”

Prediction Horoscope

At 1.48pm July 10 2012 there is a dangerous window where we get Moon conjunct Uranus. Although Uranus is not on Scheat like in the Fukushima explosion chart, it is still in the same volatile constellation Pegasus, this time on fixed star Algenib “Excess of heat resulting in violence and perhaps misfortune or dishonor.” Moon on Algenib “exiled or forced to flee, ill health,” which could be describing having to leave the radioactive zone. Moon/Uranus will fall bang on the midpoint of Japan’s Venus/Sedna conjunction too.

Jamie has already linked Sedna to earth changes. I do see her as being associated with tragedy, betrayal and abandonment (By the Government?) If we think of the sad state of our seas since Fukushima, this really fits with Sedna “when her mass of unruly hair becomes tangled she becomes enraged again and threatens to withhold her bounty. The good shamen know that in order to ensure an abundant supply of fish, they need to soothe and comfort Sedna by brushing her hair”. Moon conjunct Uranus can be accidents and it certainly describes emotional shock.

That Algenib Moon will activate the already volatile Uranus square Pluto in the sky. It gives us Moon square Pluto: “This is the raging Kali archetype par excellence….In some cases the mother as destroyer can be literal. The moment HMS Titanic struck the Plutonic iceberg the Moon was square Pluto. How symbolic of this aspect, the great ship weighed down by her treasures, plunged deep into the underworld with the loss of so many lives”  Moon square Pluto has a similar theme to Sedna. The actual chart for July 10 has a violent Sedna/Lilith conjunction on Capulus, Algol’s decapitating neighbour. Capulus is the male Lilith, the aggressive sexual energy that slew demon Medusa. Eris is opposed Saturn (13’). More wild female energy versus patriarchy, and suggestive of having to tame and restrain her. Maybe we have to appease our raging mother earth, and go back to the old fashion practices of sacrificing something to the gods. Our wasteful consuming lifestyles I mean, not goats…

Web Bot 2012 Doomsday Predictions

The problem with disaster predictions like this, is that when you then look at the astrology you are already viewing it through a negative lens. Those Neptune conjunctions could also be warning us of self deception, especially with Mercury. Is this delusion and doomsday paranoia be coming from Clif himself or the world governments in relation to the extent of the radiation? With Neptune its always hard to tell.

Are there any positives in the prediction chart itself? There is a minor grand trine to Venus on Aldebaran. “With Venus: Honor through literature, music or art, creative abilities, favorable for health and marriage.” Though the Ebertins say that Aldebaran with Venus can be “power directed wrongly” and for Aldebaran generally “. Catastrophe by weather conditions, floods, shipwrecks.” Generally Robson makes it fortunate, but then says the benefits seldom last. So not that encouraging then…

All things considered it could just simply mean a bad day for Japan. The danger period is just an hour around 2pm. We have many bad days like this and the world doesn’t end. I don’t like spreading fear or negativity, but when I hear about predictions and dates the astrologer in me can’t resist having a peak of what may be the message behind all this. The May Solar eclipse path does fall over Japan, but it’s more of a watery eclipse than an explosive one. We can only hope that the web-bot is only picking up on our negative thinking, and that maybe this is a warning to clean-up our minds.

The weekly forecast for May 12 to 20, 2012 is busy but very positive. This is the final week of the current eclipse cycle which began last November. This is an extremely waning part of this long eclipse cycle, meaning we may feel low on energy and be pressured to finalize issues that have been bugging us for some time. Venus stations retrograde this week and it has a week long influence trine Saturn, giving a mature approach to love relations, and thrift with money, however buying things for long term practical use is favored. The other week long influence is Mars trine Pluto which gives the ability to make major transformations in life which will be discussed in more detail in the weekly horoscope.

Saturday May 12 – The Third Quarter Moon theme for this week is releasing ourselves from guilt and blame, and this goes hand in hand with Venus trine Saturn. Emotional maturity and greater understanding should lead to more empathy and forgiveness for ourselves and others, especially women and partners.

Sunday May 13 – Sun conjunct Jupiter is a reason for optimism and good cheer. We will want to expand our horizons through study or travel, and will grow spiritually in those areas highlighted by the quarter moon, forgiveness and more understanding especially when it comes to our close friends and lovers. Mercury trine Mars gives quick thinking and lively but friendly conversations.

Monday May 14 – Moon conjunct Chiron triggers a grand trine with Mercury, Mars and Pluto which is discussed below in the weekly horoscope. Mercury trine Pluto today is excellent for in depth research, self analysis and deep thinking.

Wednesday May 16 – The exact aspect of Mars trine Pluto (see below), plus Moon conjunct Uranus can bring some exciting relationships with women but also some explosive emotional reactions.

Saturday May 19 – Moon conjunct Lilith is perfect for exploring the taboo side of life and getting in touch with your feminine powers. Good for occult work such as Tarot and spell making.

Sunday May 20 – The Moon passes by Mercury then Jupiter on its way to meet the Sun for the May 2012 solar eclipse and the beginning of a new phase in life with a burst on new energy. “I think this eclipse with its very psychic Moon square Neptune must foretell something of what we can expect.”

The Weekly Horoscope

This weeks horoscope is set for Moon conjunct Chiron because the opposition to Mars forms the backbone of a kite aspect pattern. This is a complex configuration involving a minor grand trine (Moon/Chiron, Mercury, Pluto), and a grand trine (Mercury, Mars Pluto). Lets break it into pieces then put it together again.

Moon conjunct Chiron is emotional pain and also the healing of that pain. The hurt may involve relationships with women and particularly mom. This is deep spiritual healing of the self. Moon and Chiron on the star Skat “good fortune and lasting happiness”. So this says that the outcome is very healing, and that is also shown by Venus trine Saturn this week.

Moon and Chiron opposite Mars suggests that this emotional pain stems from conflict, either inside our heads because of difficulty balancing emotions and anger, or through fighting with another causing the hurt. Remember the theme this week of forgiving and releasing the pain, anger, guilt and blame. Once we get this sorted out, then the backbone of the kite is strong and we can fly high.

Mercury sextile Pluto gives us the ability for powerful thinking and deep psychological analysis. We will probe every corner of our brains and memories in order to resolve things and move ahead. Last Weeks Horoscope – May 6 to 12, 2012

Well it seems the consensus is that the last week was rather challenging as predicted, but I am glad to say that the week ahead looks much more pleasant for us. The new astrological week starts on Sunday with the May 6 Full Moon at 16° Scorpio. As usual, this signals two weeks of balancing our new moon goals and plans with the needs of partners, family, and the existing structure in our lives. The fears and apprehension of Mercury opposite Saturn just before this full Moon will pass by Monday and for a few hours on Wednesday there will be some deep emotional connections and reactions with Moon conjunct Pluto. Mercury sextile Neptune on Thursday night/Friday brings hope to our thinking and compassion to communications. This minor aspect sets us up for some profound spiritual healing for the rest of the week. This is because the major aspect is Chiron sextile Pluto which is the topic of the weekly horoscope below.

Chiron sextile Pluto lasts for six weeks, exact and most powerful on Saturday the 12th of May 2012. This is a major aspect and because of retrograde motion, it will occur twice again up till early 2014. It represents a soul healing journey to help us recover from old wounds and guide us through the challenges we face with Uranus square Pluto. The pain we have in our soul through loss or self destruction can now be healed by ourselves through higher spiritual awareness, and experimentation with alternative healing methods, including occult studies like astrology and Tarot. Solar flares are massive bursts of electromagnetic energy that periodically erupt from the Sun. The intensity and frequency of solar flares occurs in an 11 year cycle, with the next peak predicted to to occur in late 2013. So we are now entering the peak phase of this cycle where we can expect more solar storms. The largest sunspot for years appeared on May 9th 2012 which scientisits are calling a “monster sun spot“. It is so big that it is observable to the naked eye (dont look directly, look at the pic on the right), and is expected to “unleash powerful solar flares” [Discovery News]. In this post I will briefly look at the astronomy, and then the astrology of solar falres, their effect on us.

Solar flares results in coronal mass ejections (CME’s) which are explosions of enormous amounts of energy. This electromagnetic energy covers all wavelengths, some we can see, some we can hear, but most is not detected by our five main senses. Solar storms have an effect on the Southern and Northern Lights, and on communications systems. Intense solar storms like we are in for in the next couple of years can results in geomagnetic storms, such as the one in 1989 that knocked out the the power grid in Canada’s Quebec province. Apart from the inconvenience of blackouts, what effect do solar storm have on us humans?

Solar Flares and Astrology

Astrology is the study of the effects of celestial bodies on our lives. The most important body in the heavens is our Sun, we cannot live without it. It gives us life so it is identified with our life-force. Scientists say that solar storms have no effect on us because our magnetosphere protects us from the radiation. Well it don’t always protect the power grids or communications systems! Electrmagnetic radiation, which pounds us in large doses during solar flare activity comes in so many forms, many undetectable. These include light, heat, microwaves and radio waves.

This takes us into the more philosophical side of astrology, and how astrology actually works. Inside the earth is a single crystal of Iron, nearly the size of the Moon. The Earth’s Core Crystal acts like a massive conductor of all the electromagnetic radiation coming from the heavens, constantly changing depending on the relationships of the heavenly bodies to each other and to the earth, and of course, changing in response to the energy hitting us from the Sun. As electrical bodies ourselves, we are sensitive to the changes in the earth.

Mercury is the spin doctor and is supposed to rule politicians. Romney has Mercury retrograde between Sun and Mars so he has a few tricks up his sleeve and should be very astute with good debating skills. His Mercury is conjunct a star called Achernar which gives “success in public office“. Moon conjunct Jupiter should make him come across as genuine and add to his public appeal, especially with women.

What I find really astounding in his chart is that Venus and the Part of Fortune are conjunct the Midheaven. This suggests a very fortunate career and a charming appeal with the public and the ladies. This area between 6 and 8 degrees Aquarius includes stars in the constellation of Capricorn, which is known as the Mansion of Kings. This fortunate Midheaven, ruling the career, is trine the North Node which is where he is heading. It does appear he was always destined for big things. I have highlighted the grand trine formed with Neptune in his chart below.

2012 Election Day Transits

The preceding solar eclipse in May at 00°21′ Gemini is bang on Mitt’s Ascendant, which represents his soul’s purpose and how he projects himself. This is a good omen putting him in the spotlight for the majority of the campaign. It will give him a great energy boost and extreme self confidence which will be noticeable to everyone. He has natal Ascendant sextile Saturn which explains him representing the conservative side of politics. With the solar eclipse then sextile his Saturn, he will come across as safe and secure, authoritative and with leadership qualities as a father figure.

However the June 2012 lunar eclipse at 14°14′ Sagittarius is square his Mercury, and on election day, Jupiter at 14°36′ Gemini is also square his Mercury. This suggests he really will be pushed to the limit to express himself and get his message across. Squares do make things happen and because of the fortunate star on his Mercury it should bring out his best, especially as the rising Sun at the White House on election day at 14°28′ Scorpio is trine his Mercury.

The next most important thing to look at in transits is Pluto at it represents long term and very significant changes. Transiting Pluto on election day at 07°34′ Capricorn in sextile his Mars which will give a staggering increase in energy and magnetic appeal. This transit will be in effect for the entire presidential campaign and also means he will be forceful and determined, but not in a way which is off putting to others. The October 29 full moon at 06°48′ Taurus is also sextile his Mars.

Saturn at 03°48′ Scorpio is square his natal Saturn which indicates a severe test and turning point in his life. It is generally seen as a very challenging transit but we do need things like this to make us take responsibility, to stand up and be counted.

Just after the election, the November 13 solar eclipse at 21°57′ Scorpio is trine his Sun suggesting good fortune with his goals. The November 28 lunar eclipse at 06°47′ Gemini on his North Node activates that fortune grand trine in his natal chart mentioned earlier.

Mitt Romney 2012 Solar Return

The return chart for his birthday is relocated and precession corrected. He was on the road in Alabama on his birthday so we cannot be sure exactly where he was at the moment of his precessed birthday, when the Sun returned to the exact same position against the backdrop of the stars. For this reason I will not look at houses or house cusps. I have highlighted the major aspect pattern, the grand trine between Mars, Jupiter and Pluto. This points to a tremendous drive and determination leading to large scale success.

Mitt Romney Secondary Progression

In the progressed chart set for election day, Moon conjunct Midheaven means a high and favorable public profile with the ability to come across as emphatic to the needs of the public and especially women. In tune and intuitive about the public mood. Both progressed Moon and Midheaven are on the brightest star in the constellation Cepheus, The King. The culminating Moon forming a trine to Pluto suggests this  popularity in the public eye will lead to great power and influence.  The progressed Ascendant at 28°02′ Cancer is trine his popular natal Moon Jupiter conjunction, another good omen for positive self projection and good fortune.

2012 Election Prediction

The betting odds at SkyBet as of today, May 8 2012 have Barack Obama paying $1.33 and Mitt Romney paying $3.20 for the win (oddschecker.com). Common sense says that Mitt Romney will lose the election, and this is what the vast majority of astrologers are predicting. Barack Obama has some good transits too, and I will post about that later. However I must say that most of what I have looked at in the charts for Mitt Romney suggests that he will win the 2012 presidential election.

François does have Sun conjunct Pluto which “exudes power, but it doesn’t need to make a big song and dance about it. It’s mere presence is enough to ensure obedience and submission.” I’m not a big fan of Sun signs but I’ll let Uber have this one, only because his Sun and Pluto happen to also be in the constellation of Leo! His Sun is in the Mouth of the Lion, the star is Ras Elased Australis, “an appreciation for language and a power of expression“, but it can also make him “bold, bombastic, cruel, heartless“. I suppose dumping your partner of over 30 years, one month after she lost the 2007 French presidential election “heartless“.

The Ascendant is most important in the horoscope as it defines the purpose of the soul. His AC, or rising star is The Eye of the Bull, Ain in the Hyades of Taurus, “Striving for prestige leading to power politics leads to tremendous success in life if bridled, if not, failure and a fall from power. May exploit other human beings in quest of power.” So Francois will have to keep a lid on that intense Sun Pluto in Leo to avoid negative repercussions. There is a fear in the financial markets and I expect in Germany that his socialist agenda will cause more economic ruin and hasten the downfall of Europa.

Election Transits

The last solar eclipse (02°37′ Sagittarius) sextile his Venus have extra charm and popularity, always good for a popularity contest. The previous lunar eclipse (18°11′ Gemini) sextile his Sun gave more self confidence and authority.  The April 21 new moon (01°35′ Taurus) was conjunct his AntiVertex, worth remembering. For the week leading up to the election, he was  under the influence of the April 29 quarter moon (9°29′ Leo) conjunct his Mercury which would have increased his mental alertness and greatly helped in debating and communicating his message. It also activated a great aspect in his chart, Mercury sextile Ascendant, he really can express himself and present himself very well.

The full moon on election day (5:35 am in France) was trine his Jupiter, very fortunate. It was also sextile his Moon giving a boost to public popularity. Another transit of interest was Pluto conjunct his Part of Fortune. We don’t all get this in our lifetimes but it is a good one. Susan Boyle had this transit when she went on that English talent show and shot to fame.

Anyway, back to the reason for this post. I have a new project, my own little non-astrological blog where I intend to rant about politics and religion and tell it how it is. The blog is called The Partridge Papers where I plan to post once a week. My first topic was about the original Partridge Papers, a series of letters published about 300 years ago slandering astrology and the leading astrologer of the day in London, John Partridge.

The Full Moon on May 6 2012 is at 16º Scorpio 01’ on the star Zuben Elgenubi in the southern scale of Libra which has a rather dramatic reputation of one who acquires an immortal name but by tragic circumstances rather than through honest success. This Full Moon is opposite her purple-ness Asteroid Ianthe. A dark cherry tinge to this full moon then since we also get an opposition to the black moon. Our looney Lilith can be a vengeful minx, but no worries; Venus is exactly on the fixed star Phact, the peacemaking dove that is trine Saturn on the lucky and triumphant fixed star Arcturus. Venus makes for good, tough-love counselling here. Arcturus doesn’t beat about the bush either and should shake some sense into that wavering and whimpering Mercury opposite Saturn.

Full Moon Aspects

Moon opposite Lilith “Because the Moon and the Black Moon are such polar opposites, in an opposition they could actually end up cancelling each other out. A successful balance of these two would mean that the domestic moon can restrain Lilith from going too far off the rails and lusty Lilith could break some of the moons stagnating habits. The bad side of this aspect could be projecting the attraction for the forbidden fruit onto partners by falling for addicts.” This theme is repeated in this Moons conjunction with teen vamp Ianthe, breaking away from the family mores often means a few rebellious flings with bad boys.

A Full Moon means Sun conjunct Lilith however “With the rejection of the dominant male, the dark female energy can eclipse the father figure altogether. The fiery creativity of the Sun fused with the piercing intuition of Lilith makes these subjects sexually magnetic and intense. They are closely bound to the spirit world, and can sometimes see people’s shadows.”

Full Moon May 2012 on Zuben Elgenubi

Robson gives Zuben Elgenubi with Moon as “Trouble through opposite sex, wrongful accusations, disgrace, ruin, mental anxiety, loss of relatives, many disappointments.. “ This to me just reeks of the about Lilithy rebellious behaviour causing scandal. But I thought I’d check out whether this infamy was warranted by looking at the famous.

Moon on Zuben Elgenubi ; Jimmy Carter (03’), Jennifer Gibbons (10’), June Gibbons (15’), Bob Monkhouse, Elizabeth Taylor, Nathan Lane, Titus Salt, June Redfern, Julie Andrews, Eric Burden, Shannen Doherty, Barry Gibb. There are some indications of crime if you take the “Silent twins” June and Jennifer into account. Beverly Hill’s actress Doherty was taken to court for bouncing 70 cheques and pulled a gun on her ex. We don’t know the rest of this list personally to know if tragedy was the motivation or the stepping-stone to their success.

In my opinion the two stars in Libra’s scales work like the Gemini twins. I would not brand the Southern Scale as being wholly unlucky as Pollux is not totally “Evil”. The Scales of Libra are interesting  because they have a dual significance anyhow since they used to be part of Scorpio and represented the claws.

We have a love/hate relationship with our parents when we are trying to forge our own personality. This also occurs in a marriage when one of the partners grows as an individual and the other tries to control that change because they are fearful they will loose the other.

May 2012 Full Moon opposite Asteroid Ianthe

There are three figures in Greek mythology with this name; Ianthe was married to a girl disguised as a boy who was then changed into a boy for real, but for a while Ianthe was in fact gay. Another Ianthe was so beautiful that when she died the gods made purple flowers grow around her grave. The third Ianthe was one of the nymphs that witnessed Persephone’s abduction by Pluto.

Tween-age girls tend to like purple. Since it can be a colour of mourning I suggest this preference could subconsciously be related to the loss of childhood innocence once those hormones start kicking in. To me this asteroid’s meaning has that budding, experimental sexuality about it. Purple is also associated with mysticism of course, which maybe those psychic years some children experience just before puberty. Ianthe is a springtime rite of passage, like her companion Persephone. But I think Ianthe is more like a practice Persephone, for she is but a nymph. Persephone is full on loosing ones virginity, whereas Ianthe is just your first popstar crush

Full Moon Astrological Meaning

This moon comes 5 days after the pagan feast of Beltane. Beltane is a fire festival with maypole dancing to signify fertility and the beginning of the farming calendar. It is a time for courting couples to collect flowers in the fields. So it’s very apt that the main aspects of this moon call for a daring rite of passage. Ianthe the spring nymph had her innocent eyes opened as she witnesses Persephone being pulled down into the fires of Pluto’s Etna.

The daring ritual of leaping over the Beltane fire seems to mirror this, as does the fact that Beltane is overtly a sexual festival. This Full Moon is all about not loosing our heads or our sovereignty to sex then. What with the claws of Scorpion and the Lilith opposition, it’s a good job we do have Venus trine Saturn. Someone has to chaperone the urge for rampant fire-toasting of bums. The sweet and sour mix of Venus and Saturn help tone down the hormones and bring some sense to the situation.

New Moon April 2012 < Full Moon May 2012 > May 2012 Solar Eclipse.

Antares is the alpha star in constellation Scorpio. It is literally found in the heart of the scorpion at 9 degrees 47′ Sagittarius. Fixed star Antares is said to represent one of the important four Archangels Oriel, the watcher of the west. Befitting its lofty angelic status, Antares also looks awesome, a flaming red binary star that occasionally glimmers emerald from its tiny green sibling. At 883 times the size of our sun, Antares is the 15th brightest star in the sky and second only to fellow super red giant Betelgeuse in size. All red stars have a passionate nature, and like the sign of Scorpio generally, this powerful star has a dangerous and fearsome reputation.

Robson says: “It causes malevolence, destructiveness, liberality, broad-mindedness, evil presages and danger of fatality and makes its natives rash, ravenous, headstrong and destructive to themselves by their own obstinacy.” Antares or anti-Ares, means the equivalent of Mars. This could be because, like Mars, it shimmers a blazing red colour in the sky and by all accounts its nature is similar to Mars too. Ofcourse Mars is also the traditional ruler of Scorpio too. The Ebertins say “Antares makes people tough, belligerent and pugnacious. This is an important star for military personnel, it is said to convey mental alertness, strategic ability and courage to make daredevils” 3.

The reason for Scorpios fearsome reputation could originate from the fact that the Scorpio is positioned in the most southern area of the zodiac, so thousands of years BC this was where the sun was seen to set and was associated with the gateway of the Underworld. Of course in the tropical zodiac we have the same deathly associations for the Scorpio Sun sign period anyway (October 22-November 22) with the pagan festival of Samhain or Halloween. All hallows (All saints) takes place the day after October 31st. The Mexican day of the dead falls between November 1-2. The Catholic “All Souls”,( in Italian it’s simply I Morti. “The Dead” ) is celebrated on November 2. It must also be remember that the constellation of Scorpio was originally much bigger than it is in modern times and spanned both Scorpio and Libra. The two Librian scales used to be the Scorpion’s claws. It seems the gods thought this primal, lustful beast of a constellation needed less emphasis in our skies and brought in Libran justice. Remember for the Egyptians the scales are also used to weigh the souls of the dead before they pass into the underworld too. Generally in mythology then, Antares represents that difficult transition from life to death, and then death to life again and the burning off of karma.

Antares & Scorpio Mythology

It’s interesting how the Scorpions is continually feared and revered throughout mythology. There is a recurrent theme of a fear of natural law and humanity from the heavenly gods. The Egyptian Solar god Horus was stung by a Scorpion and sent to the Underworld to reign as the green skinned King Osirus. In Greek myth Orion was stung in the foot (Rigel) by a scorpion sent by Gaia after Orion boasted that he had dominion over all creatures on earth. In Christianity the solar god Jesus is tempted by the devil and betrayed by Judas who are often symbolised in painting accompanied by poisonous snakes or our venomous Scorpion. Back to Antares then, we can see why it has such a difficult time of it. I do think Antares is very much working at the root chakra, survival level. If a lioness kills a poor sweet innocent bambi of a deer to feed her cubs, we don’t say she is cruel, callous or a psychopath. She is just operating in survival mode in order to protect her family. Antares has the beastly side to it, but it also has the wisdom to know that when these primal urges rage inside that he also has self control. Antares has to evolve away from acting purely by instincts and needs to engage his logical, solar mind also. This is the battle that lies at the heart of the Scorpion.

All four archangel stars are also royal stars of Persia too. Antares is always located directly opposite royal star Aldebaran, Archangel Michael, which interestingly is God’s soldier. Again we see there is more “Good versus evil” theme with this star. If Antares has been honored with the title of a royal star then it must have some redeeming qualities. Aldebaran could just be a little too good to be true, and maybe just a tad too worthy. Aldebaran is “the enlightened”, but I think Antares purpose is to remind Aldebaran that he isn’t quite a god yet, and to keep in touch with humanity and his life as a human being. This might burst Aldebaran’s balloon somewhat, but that’s Antares job, smashing sugary and sickly meringues! So Antares will always play the baddie, will always take the rap, will tend to play out the collectives demons for them. It is the man or woman you love to hate. Antares will gladly play the red-eyed monster in the corner with a long black cape going “mmmwwaaahhaaahhhaaahaaaa!” Ok, maybe thats way too obvious a stereotype, but if you look an Antares rising, they probably really do have a wicked grin or a devilish twinkle in their eye.

Back to mythology again. Horus was stung by the scorpion and became Osirus God of the underworld, he is interestingly depicted as green from then on. This inhuman colour is of course associated with reptilians, demons, green eyed monsters, envy, rivalry, little green men. We could easily over simplify Scorpio stars and brand anyone who has them strong in their chart as a budding psychopaths. Now I do believe that in very rare instances this can be the case, but it will be dependant on the chart as a whole and which planet Antares is on. A badly afflicted Mars maybe a problem, as this will only inflame the more aggressive side to Antares. Otherwise the psychopath tendencies I found more common in the other, lesser Scorpionic stars eg: Lesath, Acrab and Dschubba.  I found them coming up with great frequency in my Psychopath Astrology research.

Because Antares is a royal star, it will give great worldly success, since their ambition is quite ruthless, but Antares finds it hard to modulate itself.
