Comet Elenin is a Great Comet, meaning that unlike the average one comet per year which is barely visible, Elenin will be particularly bright. It will be visible in October 2011. The tail of this comet is nearly 1 million km long and it takes nearly 12 thousand years to orbit the Sun. It is expected that it’s trajectory will be unstable, being altered by the gravity of the inner planets [1]. This is because it will pass between Earth and the Sun. This highly elliptical and very long orbit is also why many are calling Elenin Nibiru, the Planet Crosser. See our Comet Elenin Ephemeris for astrological positions in 2011.

Comet Elenin History

The last time Elenin visited us was about 9800 BC, the beginning of the Neolithic Age. This was when we started farming, cultivating crops and domesticating animals. It was an evolutionary leap away from nomadic hunting and gathering, we began living together in small villages and built mud-brick, one-room round houses. We were still using stone tools and had not yet learned how to make pottery. This was also when we first built temples for worship. Global sea levels were rising dramatically following the end of the last ice age.

Throughout the history of astrology, the appearance of comets was a sign of upheaval for humanity, effecting agriculture and the weather. Comets were also seen as heralding the rise to power of an “agent“, a miltary or religious leader, or a reformer. ”When the place of perihelion is transited by Mars or the Sun, effects begin in earnest, the decree is implemented and arrangements change radically“ [2]. Prehelion is on September 10 2011 at 13 Libra.

Vivian Robson on comets: “Their effect appears to be exerted through the constellations in which they appear, and also through the zodiacal sign and degree to which their position corresponds. They are said to cause inordinate heat, pestilence, sterility of the earth, wars and changes in kingdoms, winds, earthquakes and floods, and are assigned to the planets according to their colours” [6].

Comet Elenin 2011 – Important Dates

March 14 2011 – Comet Elenin opposite the Sun [1]. The Japanese earthquake and Tsunami was on March 11.

September 10 2011 – Elenin will make is perihelion, it’s closest approach to the Sun at 13 Libra.

September 26 2011 – Comet Elenin will be conjunct the Sun, as shown in the diagram. Elenin will be at 04 Libra.

October 8 2011 – Elenin will make will make its closest apparent pass to another comet called 45P/Honda-Mrkos-Pajdušáková.

October 16 2011 – Elenin will make its closest pass to our planet in it’s 12000 year orbit. Elenin will be at 13 Leo.

Comet Elenin Astrology

Comet Elenin was discovered by Russian astronomer Leonid Elenin on December 10, 2010 at the ISON-NM observatory near Mayhill in New Mexico, U.S.A. [3]. In the discovery chart below, the comet is at 29°56 Virgo. So Elenin is square Mars by less than half a degree, we won’t find that interpretation in a text book, so I’ll guess it means this comet will give us an uncomfortable adrenalin rush.

Marina found that Sun square Lilith ”seems to create incredibly strong-willed, feisty individuals who take it upon themselves to become spokespeople for the disadvantaged or for gritty, dark issues that are disturbing for the public in some way.”

Mercury conjunct Pluto reinforces the darker side of the message, a deep mystery to be solved, intense scrutiny and even a pathological compulsion to understand. We are drawn to it with Mercury and Pluto conjunct the North Node, and Mars in the stellium make this all the more alluring.

The rise to power of an “agent“ could well be military with that stellium, but also a religious or spiritual messenger with the North Node on another fixed star in the Bow of the Archer called Polis, which “shows up in a horoscope with almost the regal qualities of mighty Regulus. Only this star, Polis will indicate more of the high office in spiritual life, Pope, Iman, Archbishop” [4]. Pluto in there does make any agent sound like a reformer, strong message Mars Mercury.

Mercury and Pluto are on the June 2010 Lunar Eclipse degree, still in effect when Elenin was disovered. Marina wrote about this eclipse in Praying to Aliens. In the comet Elenin discovery chart, Mercury, Pluto, and the Lunar Eclipse are all on a fixed star in the Bow of Sagittarius called Kaus Australis, ”Associated with the Goddess Istar (Ishtar, Inanna)“ [5]. Inanna was the Sumerian goddess of sexual love, fertility, and warfare.

This comet may well have the feminine goddess energy of Inanna, Venus is rising and sextile that stellium. The rising star is Syrma in the Virgin, relating to the “heavy personal responsibility which is implicit in the occult questing and acquisition of spiritual power“ [5]. There is definitely the dark goddess feel to this story, the rise of the matriarchy, the warrior priestess.

Goddess Astrology

The Sun in a chart is the energy that fuels it so the fact this comet is being powered by serpent energy is significant. A blue dominated chart without the Goddesses would be “at peace with himself, enjoys the status quo and doesn’t have to fight for changes any longer” [7] The blue aspects are matter so one would be content because one has everything he needs. This can be material goods. Revolutionaries don’t tend to come from the aristocracy.

Put in the Dark Goddesses and you get a very militant crossing over of two squares, Sun square Lilith and then Eris square Ceres. This gives the chart some fight! The women will be the activists. Jamie mentioned the first square, and as the Sun is on Sabik in the Snake charmer this really does seem like a “bite the apple“ moment doesn’t it? Miss apple-throwing Eris is involved too, actually spurring the Sun onwards and telling her mum Ceres to go to hell. Hell might actually be where comet Elenin ends up going as Pluto is conjunct the north node. Uh oh..

To make things even more Persephone-fied. Venus is sextile Pluto and as Jamie already mentioned Pluto is on a fixed star associated with Innana. This wild thing is just SO female and of course Venus is rising. Yes, Venus sextile Pluto is rising!! So transformation big time, in the sense of going down into that underworld (Hell) is what we are in for. Stripped of our bling, weapons, everything.

We changed our name to “Darkstar” because I just liked it, but I must admit I felt very compelled to change it even though it meant starting from scratch with the website and Facebook group. It was a lot of work, but now I know why.  After looking at the chart I am now also gripped by comet Elenin. Shining light in Pluto’s pit hey? Looks like comet Elenin could be that very light.
